5.0 out of 5 stars Can't do without it
This volume is the first place I look for identifying sphinx moths from the Amazon. The excellent photos and informative text usually get me on the right track, so I know exactly what museum drawer to pull out.

I am supremely dissapointed that I didn't read more carefully the description of this book. I am supremely dissapointed that I didn't read more carefully the description of this book. If you want a list of all the known Sphingidae (which you could get from a library book) and 110 pages of taxonomic notes about them, then definitely buy this book. However, if you want illustrations of these species, and are expecting color plates useful for identification, DO NOT BUY THIS USELESS BOOK!!! I find it hard to believe that a publisher accepted such a useless document for publishing as an expensive, hard cover book, and then had the gall to advertise it (on the dusk jacket) as annotated and illustrated. Who would find this book useful? A few lepidopterologists. Who would pay 55 dollars for a used copy? One thoroughly angered naturalist.
