5.0 out of 5 stars Let nature inspire you., January 30, 2001
By A Customer
The best thing about this cookbook is that the recipes are simple yet elegant. The fresher the ingredients, the better the turnout, of course. The book is divided by an introduction explaining the Hay Day story, breakfast or brunch items, appetizers, soups and breads, salads, main dish entrees, vegetable and grain dishes and desserts. One day this past summer, I made the green beans, tomatoes and pine nuts and I can't stop making them because they are so good. Our other favorites are the honey-mustard ham, BLT Pasta Salad, Peppered Tuna with Port and Pears and the Maryland Crabcakes (being from Baltimore, I can attest that these crabcakes are pretty authentic to what a crabcake is intended to be). The Belgian Chocolate Brownies are to die for. The recipes are not complicated and the ingredients are not hard to find. If you like to keep your cooking simple but still wonderful, give this cookbook a try. You won't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite cookbook, February 28, 2001
This review is from: The Hay Day Country Market Cookbook (Paperback)
I heartily agree with all the reviews. This cookbook is wonderful. I had never heard of the Hay Day Country Market (being a midwesterner) but was intrigued by the book. I bought it a year ago and it is a constant reference. I have even given this book as gifts to 5 people and each has loved. My particular favorites are the Pecan Crusted Chicken and Homemade Ginger Brew. Buy it and enjoy!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Yummy, fresh food, July 19, 1999

This review is from: The Hay Day Country Market Cookbook (Paperback)
I grew up near Westport, Connecticut, so I was already a fan of Hay Day before getting this book- this book has hundreds of ideas on how to use fresh, yummy fruits and vegetables. The first dish I made was the Mediterranean Crouton Salad- and it was delicious. This is the one-book does all cookbook I have been searching for- my bible.

5.0 out of 5 stars A New Treasure in my Kitchen, November 25, 1998
This review is from: The Hay Day Country Market Cookbook (Paperback)
We returned from our trip to the States bearing this exciting, new cookbook. We love to cook and to read cookbooks, and have quite a collection. From several of them we return to use a handful of favorites over the year. In this one, it reads like it will take a year to try all that sound so tempting. Shared the curried chutney spread on apple slices with friends to oos and ahs! Our dinner of mushroom barley soup, peasant bread and fabulous brownies was a winner, as well as easy to prepare. Must now choose what to enjoy today. Kudos to Hayday and to Kim Rizk.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, delicious, accessible food, November 29, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Hay Day Country Market Cookbook (Paperback)
This is one of the most interesting books that I have come across since I bought the Silver Palette books years ago. Every recipe that I tried worked out very well. Particularly the shiitake mushroom barley soup and the whole meal bread. Together they made a wonderful meal.

The desserts are spectacular. From cookies to cakes I found each recipe straightforward and tasty. The oatmeal raisin crisp cookies were a favorite of my children. The sour lemon cake went over well with my most recent dinner guests.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic, user-friendly cookbook!, July 8, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Hay Day Country Market Cookbook (Paperback)
This is a marvelous book for people who love to cook with fresh ingredients. I've been looking for a cold fruit soup recipe using yogurt for years that's similar to one we've had in our favorite restaurant, and there it was! Try the Chilled Strawberry Yogurt Soup -- it was wonderful! Also helpful are the hints on what to serve with recipes and other uses for them.

From the first recipes I tried - Jamaican Spiced Snapper and Rum Glazed Plantains - I was hooked! I've tried numerous recipes since and each one was 5 star! I'd recommend this cookbook to anyone!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent everyday recipes, December 28, 1999

This review is from: The Hay Day Country Market Cookbook (Paperback)
If you love the Hay Day Market store, you'll love this collection of everyday recipes based on their top selling breads, soups and salads, desserts & main dishes. These classic recipes are anything but bland Betty Crocker and are easy to make and impressive to serve. I've tried several recipes already and each one is better than the next.

5.0 out of 5 stars The BEST cookbook ever--and I have 50 other cookbooks!, March 28, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Hay Day Country Market Cookbook (Paperback)
Words cannot describe how great this cookbook is. The pages are all covered with my exclamation points that I don't give out easily. I don't often repeat recipes...except the ones in this book. Inventive but also classic, seasonal, informative, fresh, healthy, flavorful, yum yum yum yum. If you don't like this book I will refund your money--just kidding, but that is how much I love it and want to spread the gospel.
