A note about this reprint (applies to all 5 volumes in set), September 7, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Haydn: The Early Years 1732-1765 (Haydn Chronicle and Works) (Hardcover)
Thames and Hudson should be commended for reprinting this seminal work on Haydn yet again, seeing that the first reprint (from the 1980s) was going out of print. However, prospective buyers should be aware that this second reprint was printed on course, NON-acid-free paper. Also, the glossy color and halftone plates that were nicely reproduced in the first reprint are here printed as low-resolution black-and-white images on the same course paper as the rest of the book. The book is bound with real cloth (a rarity these days), but the cloth is course and does not seem to be of very high quality. I would recommend that any prospective buyer of this set first seek out a good-condition copy of the 1980s reprint, which was printed on finer paper and contains the nice color and halftone plates.
