1.0 out of 5 stars WORST FEEDER EVER...DO NOT BUY!
It looks great and even has a perch for the birds but it is horrible. If you have it PERFECTLY upright its ok but if there is a little breeze or any movement the nectar comes POURING out of the bottom tray which in turn causes ants on your deck which then causes ants in your house! I ended up buying a not so attractive feeder for $6 and I have never had so many...

DON'T buy this feeder, get the cheaper ones that have little perches, well worth all the birds you'll get.

1.0 out of 5 stars leaky mess, July 8, 2006

Overall the product looks very nice but it didn't work well. The sealant that keeps the nectar from leaking was not placed right so after you fill the cylinder with nectar it leaked all over the counter. I would not purchase this product if I could go back. Now I need to put more sealant in order for it to work properly. Thumbs down.

This is one of the worst feeders I have owned. It leaks like a sieve and the plastic base does not hold well to the bottle.

I purchased this feeder because of the copper-like accent metal. While it is a very nice *looking* feeder, and it attracts hummers nicely - it is very difficult to keep from leaking, and the bottom aspect of the feeder is not attached securely as it comes from the manufacturer.

Where the plastic bottle screws into the base - the threads separate and widen the holes where the nectar can flow out, thus overflowing the saucer and dripping nectar all over the ground. :(

I have tried sealing the saucer to the frame with a non-toxic sealant, however the nectar still leaks around the seal. Not to mention the fact that sealing the saucer to the unit permanently removes the ability to clean the inside of the saucer without breaking the seal.

Beautiful feeder but poorly and cheaply designed. I am going to throw this away and buy another feeder.

1.0 out of 5 stars What A Disappointment!!, June 28, 2006
This review is from: Hayes 13053 Horizons Hummingbird Feeder, Antique Copper with Red Flowers (Lawn & Patio)
We recently built a new deck and planted many colorful flowers around it. It seemed like a good idea to buy a hummingbird feeder to attract the little hummers and to be able to enjoy watching them feed. Not with this feeder you won't. I'm so sorry we purchased it. It is shoddily designed and made...you cannot get the bottle fitted properly...it leaks onto the tray and then onto the ground. We have tried everything to correct the problem...unsuccessfully. A total loss of purchase price.

This has been a GREAT hummingbird feeder for us, and absolutely no leaking. We purchased this at Ace Hardware where the sales attendant warned us about the leaking problem and that many customers had complained. However, he also informed us that the manufacturer had told them that they had added a seal that supposedly corrected the problem. He opened the package in front of us and checked that the one we had selected had the seal (some on the shelf had been there awhile and didn't have the seal). It did and we purchased it and have been very very happy. We have four other feeders but the birds always seem to go to this one. We especially like the fact that the bottom can be removed so the bottom chamber can be easily be cleaned. We found out quickly that you can easily overtighten the bottle when attaching to the bottom compartment. You can quickly feel the threads give and the bottle loosen. One has to gently tighten and when it starts to feel tight stop turning. That way the threads won't strip and the bottle won't leak as well. We paid $19.95 at Ace and Orchard Hardware has them for the same price, but Petsmart has them for $16.95. We have been very very pleased and have purchased two more today. We highly recommend this feeder, but if you are thinking of purchasing one be sure to check for the seal.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hayes Horizons Hummingbird Feeder, July 10, 2006
This review is from: Hayes 13053 Horizons Hummingbird Feeder, Antique Copper with Red Flowers (Lawn & Patio)
This item is "okay". The red plastic container is easy to fill & assemble for hanging.
If you order this item, check the package, as the first one they sent me was missing the bottom piece.

1.0 out of 5 stars Do Not Buy!!!, May 17, 2008

This is a beautiful feeder and looks lovely outside my kitchen, HOWEVER, as the other reviews mention, it LEAKS LIKE CRAZY!!!! I filled it up, we had a windy day, and it was empty within 24 hours - and I can't blame the birds. Last year, I had my husband seal the bottom trays, knowing that it would be harder to clean, but to no avail. I think that the fact that it is on a chain makes it spill even more in the wind. I wish I had read the reviews before purchasing. There are much better ones out there.

This item is very shoddily constructed. Materials are cheap. Joints are fragile. Basin for nectar is unsealed and spills everywhere. What a mess. This is a terrible feeder.

After the reviews of how this thing leaks, I decided to take a preemptive strike and seal it before I used it. This has worked, but it wasn't until after I sealed it that I realized the entire structure was bent.
