5.0 out of 5 stars Why this cd is worth your time & money
I have to wonder, what is in the water over in O.C. California because they are producing some damn good metalcore/hardcore. Throwdown is one of those if not the best. They really prove they aren't your average band in this genre with "Haymaker" . The breakdowns on this album are crazy an would make your mother's aunt hXc dance. People seem to think this is more for people who enjoy moshing then the music its self, sure they have alot of mosh pit anthems but I find them to have some really good lyrics and actually I enjoy the vocals. This is up there with "You don't have to be blood to be family" as Throwdown's best. Right now I think Trustkill along with Victory record's as one of the best labels right now, with a lineup including Throwdown, Terror, It Dies Today, Poison the Well, Walls of Jericho, eighteen visions(yeah even if they sorda have lost it a little) and Bleeding through. So grab a copy of this album and support Trustkill records.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kings of tough guy hardcore, December 24, 2004
This review is from: Haymaker (Audio CD)
In the world of modern tough guy hardcore there are 4 bands you need to know: Hatebreed, Throwdown, Terror, Bury Your Dead. These are the 4 bands that are dominating the scene and putting out the most brutal breakdown heavy music. First of all, I have seen Throwdown bashed by so many people for so many stupid reasons and it really upsets me. People talk about how they like bands like Lamb of God or Pantera and then say they hate Throwdown, and the usual reason is because "they don't like the lyrics". Sure straightedge lyrics about your friends and family won't go over well with your average metalhead, but I choose to open my mind. I never listened to music for the lyrics, but for the aggression and it's all here. This CD is intense and brutal, when I listen to this I start getting really pumped up and feel like lashing out at the world. The use of swear words on this CD really ups the anger/aggression factor. The fact is I really don't care if you dont like Throwdown, anyone who doesn't like a band because of the lyrics is a poser anyway. If you want a mainstream CD that is heavier than almost everything else in the mainstream then get this.

4.0 out of 5 stars Headbobber, December 19, 2004
This review is from: Haymaker (Audio CD)
Not Pantera by any means. But also not bad either. There are many that dont dig the Hardcore/metalcore,"Toughman"hardcore attitude and endless breakdowns ect.But one thing ive noticed about this album is that if your into hardcore music of any type, be it hiphop, rapcore or whatever, when you crank this album, here in Texas,Black,White,Hispanic,Asian 9/10 heads are bobbing.Aggro taker in the car after a hard day....everytime. If they can improve on their lack of different "sounds" (unearth for example)more on there next album I will give it a 5.Breakdowns are not a bad thing. Not all bands out there can deliver good ones and sound weak because of the lack of skill.Throwdown is not one of those bands....Barnone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Breakdowns Anyone???, October 4, 2004
This review is from: Haymaker (Audio CD)
This album has so many breakdowns you will spin kick your own mother. These guys even make Hatebreed sound soft. Non stop pit action from start to finish, this is what hardcore should sound like.

4.0 out of 5 stars above average quality, but average originality, March 7, 2004

Throwdown's musical effectiveness strikes me as a bit odd. They sounded original back in 1997, and have since become a face in a crowd with the rise of so-called "mosh metal" with its E-chug focus. Yet all three of their full-lengths have held on, for me, far longer than any of the newer bands' releases. This one has proved no exception. I consider it to be their current best after having several months to digest it and compare it to their previous two full-lengths. I like the newer, tougher attitude. I like the new vocalist's voice better - even if he does sound more generic than Keith's more distinctive scream. The grooviness that showed itself on their previous disc has increased here.

Following Hatebreed, Throwdown are making a grab for mainstream recognition, and this is a good record to do it with. Just don't take it too seriously; this band started out as a tongue-in-cheek group with the single goal of having as much ridiculous fun as possible at every show, and have taken it further than anyone really expected. They seem to be getting more serious now. A good record to get pumped up to or work out to. It's not the greatest thing ever, but it is a kickboxing, finger-pointing good time.

2.0 out of 5 stars This is emo compared to metal, July 3, 2004

"Haymaker is by far, the HEAVIEST THING on the planet. If you disagree with me, then you must not know good music."

oh please...i listen to music so heavy that it will make a throwdown fan curl up into a corner and cry.

this album was decent but nothing amazing. I dont exactly see a punk influence at all in this band. It sounds like hardcore (which is mostly just a subgenre of metal). But please stop saying this is the heaviest band. This band is not original, if you want the newest hatebreed album then buy this.

5.0 out of 5 stars My opinion their best yet., June 14, 2004
This review is from: Haymaker (Audio CD)
I have got all of Throwdowns cds and only kept this one. Alot of people dont seem to understand that they were searching for the kind of music they wanted to play. I give them props for trying all kinds. Their very first seemed more hardcore punkish than anything. I guess since im more of a full metal fan that i get into this album far more than any of their other ones. Not to say their others are bad but this one stands out to me.
I usually dont like bands that sound like other bands but i am a huge lover of hatebreed and this adds to it. They really fill themselves in the metal genre with this album. I like how they knew where they were going with the music.

Pros: Screaming in my opinion is great. I love Music with brutal screams but you can understand the words their saying. The energy and intensity can pump you up for anything. Its still brutal and if you listen closely the roots of throwdown are still there. The emotion gets you moving, will make you crave for a pit. Another great thing is your chance to see them on the 2nd stage at ozzfest.

Cons: For me this is not a con, but for other people it heads to the melodic metal scene alot more than the hardcore punk image. Its not the same throwdown that everyone wants which i think is a plus. This is my biggest pet peave around this album. I am anti-drug but it seems like their using it as a way to sell their album. If your aware of alot of hardcore bands calling themselves "straight edge" Its more like becoming a cult. If you look up on it, people have taken this way to seriously. I dont do drugs but i dont need a band preaching about staying straight. Honestly it makes me feel a little queer when they chant about being drug free. Its great for a band to take a positive outlook on life but it seems they are using it as a form of advertisement in their lyrics.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pantera On Speed, November 25, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Haymaker (Audio CD)
I won a copy of this cd from trustkill.com. Never heard of the band before that. I opened it expecting it to suck. If I hadn't won it, and had just heard it, I would have bought it for sure. This band has a great metal sound. The lyrics aren't as much "death growling" as other bands, but the sound is still evil. An awesome album all around, no softening up. I can't compare it to previous albums, but I'm gonna get the others, because these guys are all rock. Put your ears to this one, it's worth it.

More similar to hatebreed, but better, not mindlessly simple. For the guy who said they sound like pantera, have you ever heard pantera before?

The music is heavy, hard, and in your face hardcore. Its mosh-pit fuel, with break-downs from beginning to end, this thing rocks!
