Sometimes you need more power!,

This review is from: Hayward SP2610X15 Super Pump 1-1/2-Horsepower Max Rated Single Speed (Lawn & Patio)
Several years back we had our pool redone, and my wife had a new Hayward pump and filter installed. While the filter worked well, the pump never seemed to move the pool cleaner systems around the pool right. We tried a few different systems the Kreepy Krawley, the Barracuda etc, and I finally thought that I should get the Hayward and that might work better with the Hayward pump? It was the best at cleaning the pool floor, but was the worst yet with the walls. Finally this summer, the pump completely siezed up and after several tries at repairs, I gave up and decided to by a new pump. I considered just getting a new motor, but I had a thought, that "what If the pump is just the wrong one?"
I have a pretty large pool for a back yard pool, and the max flow pump was a 3/4 hp which seemed like not enough, so after considering volume and distance, I decided on the Super Pump 1 1/2 hp. It was a very simple switch, just two wires,(and a ground wire of course) and the plumbing was an exact match. Now my Hayward pool vac system literally flies around the pool, and does the work in much less than half the time it would have taken before and goes into every inch of the surface sides and bottom. I wish I would have bought it sooner.

At the moment I am writing, there are only two reviews, and they are both two-star. One complains that his pump arrived damaged, and the other that the pump is noisy. This pump is NOT noisy; this customer's pump must have been damaged in shipment, too. I don't know why the only customers moved to review this excellent pump received damaged goods, but that was not my experience.
My pump arrived in perfect condition. It works beautifully. My old pump had worn out and made so much noise that a neighbor actually called my wife and requested that we turn it off. After I installed this new pump, I was speaking to that same neighbor over the fence, not ten feet away from the pump, and she did not even know it was running! I also saved a lot of money buying it here. My local pool store quoted me $800 to buy this pump and have it installed. I bought it here and hired a local plumber to install it for less than $400! Do not let the poor reviews scare you off. This is the most popular pump in the country for a reason, and it is an excellent value!

I bought this after my old pump (not sure how old, it was there when I bought the house) started to leak. You can spend an afternoon poking around for seal parts, etc..., but Amazon's got some great pricing on this pump. Look at it this way: Spend $100 refitting an old pump, or $300 on a new one. It'll last you >10 years, so think of it as a $30/yr investment... You'll be glad you did.
Another thing I'd recommend is don't wait too long to swap it out. The longer you let your old pump sit there, the more it's corroding on the inside, and the harder it'll be to reuse your current plumbing connections. In the grand scheme, it's those plumbing connections that will really cost you in time/money down the road, not the pump. A few have commented on loudness of the pump. All I can say is it seems pretty quiet - almost impossible to hear from 20 feet away. Remember: the pump comes pre-wired for 220V. You can use 110V, but you have to make a small adjustment inside the pump. It's no biggie, but it's important you know what you have. One more thing: Don't use getting a new pump as an excuse to 'upgrade' in terms of HP. Assume that the previous installer knew what they were doing. Going for that 'extra 1/2 HP' might muck up your plans, even if it seems cheap to do. What you really care about is flow-through. Make sure that the Gallons per Hour (only calculable with a host of other information about your pool) will cycle through all your water every 8-10 hours your pump is on. 2115|RACK7EJW5DQTX;2115|R1FMHAS194UFAZ;2115|R3623AVFAIOW9B;
