Great price 380-- fast service as advertised--had to wait to install because of the weather here.Pump appeared new in box. Installed myself and when powered up the pump was locked up.Could not wait to send back for another pump so I took the end plate off and after many tries was able to free it.Don't know if it was a corrision problem(grinding noise)or an alignment problem with the end plate.Works perfectly now.Did not contact seller so I do not know how they would have reacted or if this was a Hayward problem.Motor is an A.O.Smith.
Also for anyone replacing a 1 1/2 HP Super pump I used this 3/4 HP Northstar pump.I am useing 1 1/2" plumbing.Pressure is 22PSI now which is a little high.So you may want to consider a 1/2HP Northstar. This appeares to be a huge step up in quality and performance over the super pump.Also basket is huge a big plus.The pump is also very quiet and the access to the basket is superior design to the old pump.

We bought to replace an old one exact hp it has been working great. I only had a little bit of a problem, I was hoping the old connector would be identical as the new but they were so there was extra work and costs to modify but all in all it has been working great for the past month.

I have had this pump for 8 years now and absolutely love it. The pump is quiet. Although it came with a 1 horsepower motor it has a service factor of 1.85. That means that even "Max Rating" the pump by putting a 1.5 horse power impeller inside, as Hayward did, still does not significantly stress this motor. I actually installed a two horsepower impeller into this pump 3 years ago, because I needed the extra pressure to run the water throw a sand filter and then a DE filter in series. The pump is still performing admirably even though I thought this would wear it out prematurely. The pump body is easy to disassemble and service as well. It has a very well thought out design. When this motor dies, I will simply replace it with the Hayward NorthStar 2HP two-speed motor. That way, I can run it in energy saving mode when I am not vacuuming the pool. I would highly recommend any of the Hayward NorthStar pumps.
