3.0 out of 5 stars First Tarot Deck Dedicated to Hawaii
"I did not know that was the beginning of my healing. I began to know who I was and realized why I had the urge to live there. I found the inner peace that I had been looking for. I started to love and accept myself as well as the other people around me. The ancient land of Hawaii, the volcanoes, the rain forests, the colorful sandy beaches, the sound of the ocean, or the...

5.0 out of 5 stars Two Worlds Tribute, September 25, 2010
This review is from: HazelMoon's Hawaiian Tarot (Perfect Paperback)
Out of all the different types of tarot cards available out there, this set is a real beauty in many was to me. Obviousley it is the only one I could find tha has anything to do with Hawai'i. It also is painted in a manner that makes me feel of old Hawai'i. It is a blending of two worlds of tradition and several art mediums. The old world European legecy of traditional tarot diviation, melded with motifs and themes from the last outpost of the Polynesian empire. The book in the set was not only interesting from the perspective of a new tarot reader but also due to the authors unique style of writing and love of Hawai'i. Apparently beng born in Hungary and then moving through the United States and finally settling in Hawai'i melded into a style in word craft that makes the reading feel from the heart. All this combines to a magical effect and makes this set more than another tarot with just new images. On a technical note, the standard quality of print and stock are good and the box in a box apprach is nice since I can take the cards along with me seperately. I also like the sizes of both book and card. They fit well in my hands and make working twith them easier. Thank you to the author for her work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely Deck! A must have for the collector!, February 3, 2011
This review is from: HazelMoon's Hawaiian Tarot (Perfect Paperback)
HazelMoon's Hawaiian Tarot is one of my new favorite decks. While I have my first deck and many I have added since, along with my Fey Tarot, my stand by - I have to say that The Hawaiian Tarot is right up there on my fav's list!

I love the colors the art work and symbolism! You can tell a lot of labor and love went into this deck. When it comes to choosing a deck for me - these days anyway - I want more than just a pretty ornate deck of cards. I want something that I can feel the heart in.

HazelMoon is a lovely accessible person - someone who feels very real to me as a card collector and professional advisor!

For that reason alone, not to mention many others, I love her deck.

Sure there are hundreds upon hundreds of decks to select from but I love the earthy feel I get with this deck.

I also commend anyone who is trying to do something they feel important to them, this is not about some huge publishing company but just a really cool woman with a really big heart who wanted to make something others could relate to!

This also has got me thinking more about Hawaii and its land, peoples, vegetation etc.

As a tarot reader I am one who loves the journey and learning, so with HazelMoon's deck I get far more than just another deck I can read with.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very nice deck indeed, August 27, 2011
This review is from: HazelMoon's Hawaiian Tarot (Perfect Paperback)
HazelMoon's Hawaiian Tarot is a very special deck.

It highlights the beauty and serenity of the Hawaiian Culture, and brings the personal Touch of Katalin and her love for this land and it's wonderful people.

It's very reasonable priced and the quality of the printing and card stock is quite good.

Thanks for sharing your love for Hawaii for those of us who are not lucky enough to experience it in person.

i know nothing about tarot and have very little interest in the divinitory arts. i bought this deck to enjoy the beautiful art portrayed on each and every card. the artists story is very interesting but for me the lovely art portrayed on each card is why i enjoyed purchasing these tarot cards. i lived in hawaii rainforests for 20 years and these cards are a lovely portrayal of Big Island images. phillip

3.0 out of 5 stars First Tarot Deck Dedicated to Hawaii, January 25, 2011
This review is from: HazelMoon's Hawaiian Tarot (Perfect Paperback)
"I did not know that was the beginning of my healing. I began to know who I was and realized why I had the urge to live there. I found the inner peace that I had been looking for. I started to love and accept myself as well as the other people around me. The ancient land of Hawaii, the volcanoes, the rain forests, the colorful sandy beaches, the sound of the ocean, or the sweet rhythm of the ukulele, the tall swinging palm trees, the people, the hula...they were all sacred and dear to me, because they taught me that we are one." - From the companion booklet to HazelMoon's Hawaiian Tarot

Since the tender age of 13, the creator and artist of HazelMoon's Hawaiian Tarot has had Rheumatoid Arthritis. However, this painful condition didn't stop Katalin Csikos from paying homage to her beloved adopted homeland in the first Tarot deck dedicated to the Aloha spirit and the islands of Hawaii: HazelMoon's Hawaiian Tarot.

A single, working mother originally from Hungary, Katalin says she could be at other beautiful destinations right now--Greece, Mexico, the Caribbean--but it's the magical land of Hawaii that captures her heart and heals her soul. In fact, Hawaii's siren song had been so strong for Katalin while living in Arizona that she quit her job, sold all she had, and bought two one-way tickets to the Big Island.

Many years in the making, HazelMoon's Hawaiian Tarot offers a vibrant peek into the mystery, history, lore and lure that fuels Katalin's love for the Kingdom of Hawaii. From hypnotic hula dancers to fiery sunsets, surfing boys to erupting volcanoes, lush vegetation to playful dolphins, Katalin provides non-natives a sense of "being there" among the spirit of Aloha.

While most cards gleam with glowing reds, soothing lavenders, brilliant blues and verdant foliage, Katalin doesn't shy away from the harm that has come to both the land and its inhabitants. For example, Trump XV, often called The Devil, is renamed The Evil in the Hawaiian Tarot, showing bloodied harpooned whales and smokestacks belching gray debris.

In HazelMoon's Hawaiian Tarot, the Minor Arcana suits are Cups, Sticks, Swords and Lava Stones and the Court Cards follow the Boy, Warrior, Queen and King designation. Measuring approximately 4 ½ x 3 inches, these sturdy, glossy cards feature a thick border dotted with primitive Hawaiian symbols surrounding the central image, while the card backing shows a non-reversible palm tree in colors of cream and brown.

A 108-page companion booklet accompanies the Hawaiian Tarot, offering cultural and historical tidbits, as well as spiritual insights, advice on learning Tarot, individual card interpretation and both upright and reversed divinatory meanings.

Personally, I had hoped for more background information on some of the card imagery, especially the ones featuring plants and flowers. For example, the 8 of Swords depicts vivid vegetation with eight blue swords, but we don't know what kind of foliage we're seeing and how they may connect to the traditional meanings of the 8 of Swords card (for which Katalin provides common meanings).

As such, I don't think HazelMoon's Hawaiian Tarot would be a good beginner deck, only because there lacks an explanation of the connection between imagery, designation and offered interpretations for some of the cards.

If you're drawn to the magical land of Hawaii, or find Katalin's bright, beguiling, rudimentary paintings alluring, I think you'll find HazelMoon's Hawaiian Tarot to be quite the treasure. Indeed, this deck is the first, and only, Tarot dedicated to the enchanted spirit of Aloha and the Islands.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and Simple deck, October 22, 2010
This review is from: HazelMoon's Hawaiian Tarot (Perfect Paperback)
Simple deck to interpret if you're a first timer or don't get into all the complicated types of readings. You can however if you want to look online! I like to shuffle my deck and pick out a card and read about it. Love the artwork and layout. Love the Israel Kamakawiwo'ole references and the tarot culture combined with Hawaii, might start a whole new subculture, who knows! Ergonomic friendly size. Glad they finally got published.
