5.0 out of 5 stars Hazell Dean's finest studio album, October 5, 2005

This review is from: Hazell Dean ; [Japan Import] (Audio CD)
Always was Hazell Dean's second studio album, and the highlight of her career. It includes all of her memorable hits from the second half of the 1980s; all are in their original versions and most of them extended. Although it does include many of her most important songs, it is not a Greatest Hits collection and should not be considered as such. It is, however, the single most important studio album she ever released and is a total must in any Hazell Dean collecton.

It was released in 1988, directly following her string of chart smashes that year (Who's Leaving Who, Maybe We Should Call It A Day, and Turn It Into Love), and included these three classics along with some older hits (They Say It's Gonna Rain from 1985, a PWL remix of Walk In My Shoes from 1986, and Always Doesn't Mean Forever from 1987). It also featured a few brand new songs which later went on to become classics; most notably the joyful You're My Rainbow, which is now a definite gay favourite, but also the mellow Nothing In My Life and her self-penned stomper Danger. The duet Ain't Nothing Like The Real Thing with Darryl Pandy (who had previously been a featured vocalist on Farley Jackmaster Funk's Love Can't Turn Around) was included as a bonus track on CD and cassette.
