Part three looks at “enlightenment in action” — what it means for someone to be living and acting in order with the deep wisdom of enlightenment, and how they can practice “learning how to be satisfied” and enjoy serenity and tranquility. The final section is a moving firsthand account of one woman’s solitary realization of the deepest truths, a story — like this book — at once practical and inspiring.

Flora Courtois "An Experience of Enlightenment" In Print Again!,

Although this entire collection is of high quality, to me the stunning news is that the long out-of-print Quest gem, "An Experience of Enlightenment" by Flora Courtois is enfolded intact within the middle of this book.On Bookfinder.com, sellers have long been asking as much as $300 for copies of "An Experience of Enlightenment." This for a tiny palm-sized paperback that originally sold for $4.50 back in the late eighties or early nineties (as I recall). For simplicity and clarity, the late Flora Courtois' first-person report in "An Experience of Enlightenment" is rivaled only by a few much shorter accounts of enlightenment tucked into the middle of the late Roshi Philip Kapleau's "Three Pillars of Zen." One is ever warned (even in this very Compendium) against vicarious substitution of the reported experience of others for one's own present-moment kensho, awakenings and enlightenments leading beyond the individual to satori. Still Flora Courtois points usefully in a direction which, when taken seriously, will in a most pivotal manner alter one's own outlook and possibly one's own experience. calmswan@gmail.com
