Not a can opener for those with arthritis,
By Happy Housewife (Arizona) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hb Compact Can Opener Black (Kitchen)
If you've got arthritis in your hands or grasping things and holding on is very hard or you have no strength in your hands--for whatever reason--this is NOT the can opener you want. It takes a lot of pressure to push the blade through the lids and to get the stupid thing started.

Can opener is hard to use,

Looks good but hard to use. Hard to fit cutting blade onto can. Cutting handle slopes in wrong direction so thumb tends to slide off. My wife had arthritis and cannot use it.

I love this can opener. This is the second one that I have bought to give as gifts to family members. This can opener keeps on going, and going, and going. I have had one for over a year and have only charged it 2 times in all that time. It is compact and sits on my counter taking up very little space. You could also store it in a drawer and charge when necessary with its AC adapater charger. Cans are opened easily and cleanly from the smallest to the very largest with the flick of a lever on the top. The can opener dances around the can while the can remains stationery. Easy to clean and store. I recommend this can opener highly.

I'm handicapped - lost my left arm and shoulder due to cancer 5 years ago - so I need an easy to use can opener. This is a nice unit but I have a very diifficult time setting it.

I didn't like it,

I read a lot of reviews on this can opener before I made the purchase. I had a gizmo for over a decade and the battery finally gave out. I got one of the cheap hand operated openers and it hurt my hands and I couldn't open the cans. So I read up on this one and it had pretty good reviews. I noted that a few people over 65 had issues using it, but didn't think much of that. Well, I have to agree with them. I have trouble with my hands and could not ever get the thing seated on the can. I was already upset that when I opened the package the magnet was missing and the company wanted to charge ME for a new one. Then I tried and tried to get that thing on my large can of dog food to get it open and no matter how I tried it, it just wouldn't go on it. Folks weren't stretching the truth when they said you had to get the trick to it. I am sorry, but I am not interested in having to learn the trick to it. My gizmo was so simple, just take it off the charger, put it on the can, and it did the work no matter the size of the can or thickness of the lip of the can. I would love to say this was a good can opener, but I couldn't use it and it came with a piece missing. I am not a dummy, I install my own electical and build my own furniture. I can only say maybe the magnet wasn't the only problem with my can opener, but I didn't like it at all. Not recommended if you have trouble with your hands or if you mostly open large cans.

This was a great product - until it wasn't. Darn thing stopped clamping onto the can and traveling round it. I've been on the hunt for a long-lasting electric can opener for years - and this isn't it.

disappointed,

With the plug-in recharger, I had high hopes for this product. Unfortunately, the fulcrum arm is too short to apply proper pressure on the can lid before opening. I pressed as hard as I could without success in opening canned dog food. That's too bad because I think with the proper length on the opener arm, this would have been a superior product.

Cordless Can Opener,

This review is from: Hb Compact Can Opener Black (Kitchen)
I purchased this can opener to replace a Black & Decker cordless the I replace once before and that my wife and I enjoyed using because of it's ease of use, and that B&D does not carry anymore. This Hamilton Beach opener is stylish on the counter but misses the mark in ease of operation. It is difficult to attach to a can to start the opening process. It's too early to tell if the chage will hold for the 19 cans it is supposed to open with one charge.

Terrible,
By Lex (TX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hb Compact Can Opener Black (Kitchen)
I really wanted a cordless can opener and thought Hamilton Beach would give it to me. I've used their products before and never had any problems... until now. This thing simply does not work. The blade and gear are set too close together making it impossible to grip around any of the [several different] cans I used. Each of them got stuck and I had to pry the can opener off, tearing the label on the cans. Don't waste your money.

Not up to par,

I had the original white one for many years until it finally gave out. This black one was suppose to be better. Well it isn't. It won't hardly hold a charge and after opening more than one can it has to be charged again. (it seems to have very little power) I am very disappointed and am looking into purchasing something different. Hamilton Beach did not make a very good product and I can't believe they released this for purchase. I've had many of their products and was satisfied with all of them until I bought this can opener. Please don't waste your money!
