Huh?, May 15, 2006
This review is from: Hdv: What You Need to Know (Paperback)
As the author, I have to respond to the comments from above. I believe its unfair to make such ridiculous comments.
The book is not "several years out of date." HDV didn't even exist more than 18 months ago, and this book is 14 months old. Gimme a break!
The book was published 4 months BEFORE the Sony HVR Z1u was shipping, but the book includes comprehensive information on the Z1U as we had a pre-production camera. In over 55,000 copies sold, this is the first negative we've seen. The book is the first on the subject. Written by someone who at the time, had edited far, far more hours of HDV than most anyone in the world, due to beta testing of both camera and various softwares.
It's the first book published on the subject of HDV, and other than the fact that its missing data on the Canon XLH1 (started shipping in Feb 06', and missing information on the Sony HC3 (started shipping April 06) this book is STILL up to date, containing information on all camcorders available at the time.
I'd suggest that if "wedding guy" is the same person trashing this book in several forums, it's likely the same book "dealer" who is selling our book, but copied much of the data in our book, and sells it under a psuedonym.
This book is the book used for internal training at Sony, JVC, and Canon. Still even today.
I can't comment on whether it's the best or worst book, but it's the first, and still current book on the subject.
The review reeks of ulterior motive, as *every* review of the book on every website for the past year, has been positive.
Additionally, this book is now discontinued in favor of the second edition of the book, having now been thru 5 printings of 10,000 copies each.

Dissapointing - Very Out of Date & Too Technical, April 10, 2006
This review is from: Hdv: What You Need to Know (Paperback)
I had high hopes for this book but to be honest it was deeply dissapointing. I'm no expert on HDV (that's why I bought the book) but it seems to me that this book is several years out of date - it only mentions the early HDV camcorders, and the chapters about editing don't seem to add up with what the industry magazines are saying about native editing. The general overview about HDV was useful, but I was lost when the commentary got overly technical.
