He Chose You is a personal message to tweens of God's unconditional love for them. His perfect understanding of the needs of tweens today is shown in each detail revealed to us when Christ's chose to die on the cross for all. Illustrating his points with stories today's tweens will be able to apply to their lives, Lucado reveals to tweens the gifts of the cross.
Grade 6-10-Like the adult title from which this book is adapted (He Chose the Nails [Word, 2000]), He Chose You blends anecdote with meditations on scripture to present an evangelical perspective on the message of the Crucifixion. Lucado finds meaning in each detail of the arrest, trial, execution, and resurrection of Jesus, seeing each event as a choice made out of love. The devotional passages are essentially identical to those in the earlier book. The anecdotes have been, for the most part, replaced with "story adaptations by Monica Hall," and reflect the different audience being addressed. They now feature young teens instead of adults, but are still closely related to the theme of each chapter-"Be Careful What You Ask For," "The Ultimate 'Been There/Done That!'" "Spit, Sin, and Other Nasty Stuff We'd Rather Not Think About," etc. Lucado is an immensely popular writer, and presents his ideas clearly. He is equally clear about his purpose in this book, which is to present his belief that Jesus died to save sinners. Church and religious school libraries will certainly want to add this title, while public libraries in communities where Lucado's adult books circulate briskly will want to consider it. Review
"Lucado offers tweens a true sense of where they belong." -- Christian Parenting
In just under two decades of writing, Max Lucado has accomplished more than most writers hope for in a lifetime. Most of his books have appeared on one or more best seller lists, including those published by the "New York Times," "USA Today," "Publishers Weekly," and the Christian Booksellers Association (CBA). Aside from hardcover books, Lucado's writings have also been published as children's books, videos, CD-ROMs, DVDs, music CDs, mass paperback booklets, apparel, giftware, bookmarks, calendars, study Bibles, workbooks, curricula, and plush products. In spring 2003, Hallmark/Dayspring Cards launched a new gift card line featuring excerpts from Lucado's writings--and has already sold more than one million cards.
All this success has drawn more than a little attention to a previously low-profile Texas author and minister. Lucado has been featured in a wide range of media, including "USA Today," "Larry King Live," and "NBC Nightly News." He has spoken at the National Prayer Breakfast before the President of the United States. He has traveled with internationally renowned musicians as a special speaker on their music tours, such as the highly successful "Come Together & Worship Tour" (sponsored by Chevrolet) with Grammy Award-winning artists Michael W. Smith and Third Day.
Journey to the Top Lucado was born in 1955 in San Angelo, Texas, and raised in Andrews, Texas, the youngest of four children. His father was an Exxon oil field mechanic who, Lucado remembers, always smelled of grease cleaner. "It makes it easy for me to see a God who is loving and kind--because my dad was," he says. His mother was a nurse who grew up working in the cotton fields.
Lucado went through a period of rebellion against his parents' values and their God during his teens and into college. But it wasn't long before he found himself drawn back to his roots, back to God. He married, spent time serving as a missionary in Brazil, and returned to the States, where he began working as a church minister and writing on the side.
Secret to Success From all accounts, Max Lucado is not a man consumed by sales, awards, and achievements. He often turns down media interviews since they impede on family and ministry commitments. He spends the bulk of his week serving as senior minister at Oak Hills Church in San Antonio, Texas. And he is truly surprised by his own success--more impressed by his one-in-a-million wife and three amazing daughters than by his successful writing career.
This book is a strong spiritual book. It tells about all the things at the cross, and what they meant. It talks about the soldiers spit, the crown of thorns, the nails, the sign reading "Jesus of Nazareth, The King of the Jews," the two crosses behind Jesus, path to calvary, garment, the wine soaked sponge, the torn flesh, the blood and water, the cross, the burial clothing, and the empty tomb. It talks about how all of those things symbolize one of God's promises. It has a story that goes along with each lesson to help you understand and to give an example.
I liked this book. It is very informational. This book makes you think. I enjoyed it mostly because it is a christian book, and is good for your soul. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone that is willing to learn about what God did for us. It gives scripture to back it up. I will be reading this book again, because I was so pleased with it. My favorite part was near the end when it talks about leaving your anger, sadness, anxiousness, and bad moments at the foot of the cross. It really made me realize that I am holding onto things I shouldn't be. Overall I was not displeased with this book in any way.

I always buy this book for the girls who leave my Sunday School class after the 6th grade. The book is very readable and gives "tweens" a perspective of the crucifixion they can understand.
