IT'S FINALLY HERE! I feel like I've been waiting all my life for "He-Man" to be released on DVD...and the day has finally come!

First of all, He-Man has never looked better. I was absolutely thrilled when I picked up this DVD set and saw how cool the packaging was. The cover and interior photos are fabulous, and the DVD set comes with two 4 x 6 postcards featuring "Masters of the Universe" comic book art. It's gorgeous!

Now on to the best part...the DVDs themselves! This is a two-disc collection of ten classic "He-Man" episodes. Fans of the show were actually given the opportunity to vote on the episodes they wanted to include on the He-Man.org Web site several months ago...I'm thrilled that some of my favorite episodes were included! The restoration of the cartoon is amazing...it looks absolutely beautiful, with no graniness at all! The sound is greet, the navigation menus are great, and the bonus features are FABULOUS! In addition to two feature-length documentaries, there's also a sneak preview of upcoming "He-Man" releases. Beginning this fall, all 130 episodes of the series will be released in four special edition DVD boxed sets. I'M SO EXCITED! The only thing that would make me happier is if "She-Ra" follows suit...and I have a feeling it will!

Even if you plan on buying the complete series when it is released, this special collector's edition is a must-have for any fan...and the price is unbelievable! I would have paid a hundred bucks to have my favorite childhood cartoon series on DVD! (Oops...I'd better be careful who I say that to!) Pick up your copy of "He-Man" on DVD today!

5.0 out of 5 stars The first in a line of good things to come, June 30, 2005

Hi, to those complaining about this DVD being a "best of" disc instead of a season set release, don't worry! You'll get your season sets. Read the news at http://www.he-man.org. They recently conducted an interview with BCI Eclipse about the upcoming DVD release as well as future season volume set releases.

Now about this DVD itself, a 10 best episode release is not all that much to get excited about, but because we will get the season sets down the line I like to think of this 2-disc release as an appetizer. It's also the 10 "best of" release, not just some random hashed together release. Fans of He-Man actually voted in a poll for these episodes to be collected together including myself. The special features are gonna be awesome and there are those two art cards, one by Bruce Timm of "Batman: The Animated Series" fame.

This 2-disc set is especially good if you're not a huge fan of the series, but still like it enough to pick it up. It'll also be a great way to introduce others to the series without intimidating them with volume sets.

And yes, I want She-Ra on DVD as well!! But this is a great start nonetheless.

5.0 out of 5 stars FINALLY!!!!, May 21, 2005

This review is from: The Best of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (10 Episode Collector's Edition) (DVD)
The greatest cartoon series is finally coming to DVD. This Best Of Series will pave the way for all the episodes to soon be released. The extras alone make it a must for any fan, especially those who watched it everyday at 5 in 1983 and 1984. Though the show was originally just to promote the Mattel figures it became a phenomenon and made the He-Man concepts and characters known worldwide. The animation and backgrounds are excellent, and the stories, characters, and adventures are even better. Whether you are a long time fan, or experiencing it for the first time you are sure to love this DVD and all additional episodes released.

Growing up, I watch a lot of cartoon series but none is as educational and thought-provoking as Masters of the Universe! The lessons you learned at the end of each episode is helpful in everyday life. It's what's lacking in the series on today's age.

Our hero, HE-MAN, always seeks a less violent, less destructive way to win a fight. A true hero in it's purest form and sense. This DVD is a great collection of the series' most prized episodes. AND I CAN'T WAIT TO HAVE IT!

5.0 out of 5 stars Stand up and be exploited again!!!, October 17, 2005
This review is from: The Best of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (10 Episode Collector's Edition) (DVD)
When I was four years old I was totally in love with He-man. I had He-Man bedsheets, He-Man curtains, He-Man action figures, He-Man play sets, a plastic He-Man sword... you get the idea.
The one thing I didn't have was any He-Man videos, and believe me, I would have bought them. The world loved He-Man, but the world has a short attention span, and gradually He-Man began to age.
But you know how this story ends. Mattel, after 20 years, has finally decided to release He-Man on DVD, just as they are now releasing every TV show you have ever heard of (and some you haven't). I stared, slack-jawed, upon the box labeled "The Best of He-Man". It was the ten best episodes. I knew at once, I had to have it.
Actually, I come to find out, He-Man was fairly revolutionary. It was the first five-day a week children's cartoon, and it was also the first such show run by a toy company. It was perhaps the most genius marketing idea I've ever heard of; design the toys, and then make up a TV series around them. It was little better than having a half-hour long commercial for toys.
But, you see, it worked. I didn't know this at the time; I didn't even know the company that had brought you Barbie was trying to get away with doing something for the boys, which might have crushed me when I was four. I just wanted He-Man.
And now, Matel returns with a possibly even greater genius move. The release of these DVD's was tactful. They knew they had to wait a long time for the generation they had once exploited to stand up and ask to be exploited again, but this time it was even easier. Every Master of the Universe, every single one of us, no longer had to beg our parents to buy us He-Man. Like myself, every single one of us woke up one day to find He-Man staring us in the face, and we remembered what was missing in our lives.
I'm not saying it's perfect. The character's lips never match their voices, and watching Battle Cat roar is downright laughable. Considering this was probably the best they could do in the early 80's, I'm impressed. But the soundtrack, I have to admit, is pretty cool, and that's something I couldn't have appreciated back then.
Nor would I have recognized the subdued incestuous themes when Teela hints at her attraction to He-Man, even though Prince Adam is like a brother to her.
That's not her fault, though. The series also plays host to the classic superman error, where He-Man wears nothing to conceal his identity, and yet his own parents and sister seem unable to recognize him. In fact, all holding the sword over his head really does is give him less clothes.
Which isn't to say their weren't some very mature themes. In one episode, Prince Adam undergoes an identity crisis when he thinks his father likes He-Man better than him. The 60-second moral at the end of that one is that parents sometimes forget to tell their children they love them, but that really deep down they do. That's a lesson we needed then as much then as 20 years later.
In the episode where they need to convince Skeletor to help them fight the evil Dark Seed (who appears to have a bustle sprout for a head), Skeletor continually cries "don't you ever get tired of being a hero. Don't you ever feel like doing something evil." It's totally ridiculous, and yet when he finally lifts his staff to help explode the giant ice ball, everyone cheers anyway.
It's also funny to watch the series creators speak in deadpan about it, as though it were the most serious thing in the world. And yet, I don't blame them. I was a series creator too, or at least I was part of what made the series work. The fans were what it was all about, and the fans are what it is still about now.
And for just a half-hour, I felt like a Master of the Universe again.

5.0 out of 5 stars I WAS PLEASANTLY SURPRISED, January 2, 2006
By
This review is from: The Best of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (10 Episode Collector's Edition) (DVD)
I bought this DVD last night after a month or so of debating whether to buy the whole first season or the best of disc. I was dissapointed in the past with other cartoons from my youth on DVD not holding up, the stories and animation were extrememly primitive (most notably some of the earlier SuperFriends episodes).

I was so pleasantly surpised when I popped in the first disc of this best of and watched a few episodes. First off the DVD is extremely well done, the menus and and packaging are TOP NOTCH. The actual transfer of the episodes are PRISTINE. I have a new 42" Sony HDTV and it looks beautiful on there. The sound is great as well. I found the animation to be acceptable and the original stories to even hold my interest as an adult. I now regret not getting the entire season 1 on DVD. I probably will and just give this other one away as a gift.

GOOD JOB!

5.0 out of 5 stars Nostalgia at its best, September 25, 2005
By
This review is from: The Best of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (10 Episode Collector's Edition) (DVD)
I grew up in the '80s and one of my most favorite aspect of the '80s was the cartoon shows I watched. One of my favorite shows was "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe". For some time now I have been hoping for the show to come out on dvd, and it finally is (next month for the entire first season). Until the first season comes out, "The Best of He-Man and the Masters fo the Universe" will have to do. "The Best of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe" is a best of collection from the show's first two seasons. Both discs contains a countain of the top five episodes from seasons 1 & 2.

From season 1, I have to say that "Evilseed" is my favorite. Evilseed is this cabbage-looking villain who tries to take over Eternia with his evil plants, forcing He-Man and Skeletor to join forces. One of my favorite scenes was when Skeletor was forced to join forces with his most hated enemy, He-Man. His lines were hilarious although overdramatic. I also liked the episode "Prince Adam No More" when Prince Adam tries to prove himself to his father King Randor.

On disc 2, I loved the story behind the Sorceress on "The Origin of the Sorceress". The only problem is how it didn't really mesh with her story from season 1 involving Teela called "Teela's Quest". It made no sense. I think the writers totally forgot about what happened in "Teela's Quest". Another great episode from season 2 is "To Save Skeletor" when He-Man has to clean the mess of what Skeletor made by bringing in a monster beyond his control into Eternia. Again this forces both He-Man and Skeletor to join forces. My personal favorite episode from this season is "The Problem with Power" where Skeletor tricks He-Man thinking that he was responsible for the plight of an innocent.

Watching this best of collection brought back vivid memories of my love for this show. The dialogue is really over the top and hilarious. The animation may be out dated by some people's standards. All in all, I still love this show and I can't wait to get the first season on dvd.

5.0 out of 5 stars 80's cartoon's suddenly coming out of the woodwork!!, July 8, 2005
This review is from: The Best of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (10 Episode Collector's Edition) (DVD)
Wow! This is pretty exciting! He-Man, Thundercats, Heathcliff,
and soon Zelda and Mario will follow. For those of you complaining about He-Man not coming to season sets right away,
I have something to share with you. Apparently BCI is starting
the season set wave in October. So settle down pilgrims! BCI
is acting a lot faster than other DVD companies I've observed.
Some wait six months to a year before releasing the next season
set of something. Others even wait that long to release one or
two individual dvd's with just a few shows on each one, and then
never get around to releasing season sets. Not to worry, I'm
not complaining myself. I am just simply contrasting to make
BCI look good! It seems like quite a few companies have had
trouble getting the ball rolling for older cartoons in the past
few years. However BCI doesn't seem to be one of those companies. That's because He-Man is a great way to start!
I hope they continue to have great success in the future!

Anyway, I am very intrigued by this release! This particular
release will interest people who haven't seen this show in a
long time. I do believe that 1986 would have been the last
time I saw this show. I don't recall it being on cable much.

A friend of mine told me he remembered the He-Man cartoon
being a little cheesy. Especailly Skeletor's laugh! Oh
well. When your a big Mystery Science Theater 3000 fan
like I am, you can handle films and shows that are cheesy
(to a certain degree anyway).

This review is from: The Best of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (10 Episode Collector's Edition) (DVD)

First of all this show is one of my all time favorite TV Shows since i was young, i am still a fan of this classic superhero/fantasy show. I will review the show when it comes out on the first season coming this october but for now, i am reviewing this 2-Disc edition. It contains the 10 best episodes chosen by the fans of the 80's cult TV toon with 5 episodes each on 2 discs. They contain the episodes " Quest for Teela" which is about Teela trying to find who her mother as she heads to the oracle to find the answers until one of Skeletor's henchmen "Mer-Man" interrupts then on to Evilseed" that deals with a cabbage-headed vegetable creature who has powerful plants to take over eternia including Snake Mountain but the only way to stop him is the forces of good and evil to join together. " Prince Adam No More" has Prince Adam wanting to make his father proud to proove that he isn't a goof all the time is stunned when his father is kidnapped by Beast-Man to impress Skeletor as Beast-Man was banished by everyone's favorite skullhead, " The Diamond Ray of Disappearence" has Skeletor with a powerful magical diamond that can send people to another dimension as only He-Man is the one that can crush the diamond. " Into the Abyss", Prince Adam and Teela are having a fun game in the forest until Teela falls into the abyss of Castle Greyskull with only He-Man to save her. Next up "Teela's Triumph" is about The Sorceress who's daughter Teela was missing had just disappeared into another dimension, Teela is worried as her mother was taken away leaving her to take the place of the sorceress as the mightiest warrior on Eternia is gone leaving Teela to deal with Skeletor who wants unlimited power. "To Save Skeletor" deals with Skeletor and his evil clan summons a powerful being from another dimension ( whom is almost remescence of the creature from "Rock & Rule" and Jabba the Hutt) as it wants to take over the planet and Greyskull, only Skeletor with his clan can join forces with the good guys especially He-Man and Sorceress to battle this dark fiend, next " The Origin of the Sorceress" tells how a wargod named "Morgoth" returns after many years to destroy humanity as He-Man and the sorceress must go to the ancient place where she tells her story of how she became the sorceress and fought Morgoth before. And now my two personal fave episodes " Quest for He-Man" and " The Problem With Power", now "Problem with Power" is a powerful moralistic episode about He-Man whom accidently kills an innocent man has just given up his power of responsiblity as Skeletor has tricked him and " Quest" has Ram-Man, Cringer and Orko to search for He-Man who just got his memory erased and sent to a wacky planet of animals contaminated by a evil rabbit being.

The DVDs have good picture and sound with cool extras like Scripts for "Teela's Quest" and " Origin of the Sorceress", On the chapters pages of the episodes there are fun facts and trivia, trailer for the upcoming season 1 with full season 1 episodes and 2 documentary featurettes with interviews by fans and the staff of the show.

Highly recommended! i also recommend " Thundercats", "She-Ra" and " Transformers".
