5.0 out of 5 stars Great fun, clever gender spins on language
All I can say is if you have ever felt the slightest bit misunderstood by the opposite sex, BUY THIS BOOK!!! Herein lies a cornucopia of linguistic fun (post-modern politically correct humor), it will make you laugh so hard and maybe even help you find and keep a significant other. Makes a great gift, too.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not new. Too cute by half.
I'm a fan of the funny dictionary, but I'm disappointed in this effort. It's a small paperback, it's not even close to "definitive." It's one of many I have since Henry Beard's really sharp Politically Correct Dictionary and his follow-up Sexually Correct Dictionary. It's not the lamest of the copycats. The format is cute, with alternating pages of...

Thank you for this book - I finally understand that men aren't from Mars, they just speak a different language than women do. And now I have the dictionary to decode it...

5.0 out of 5 stars A great wedding or engagement present, April 22, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: He Meant She Meant: The Definitive Male/Female Dictionary (Mass Market Paperback)
I bought this book on the way to a wedding for plane reading and thought it looked cute but nothing special, like something I'd throw out after the trip - but I ended up keeping my copy and buying copies for the whole wedding party instead. The book really tells both sides of the story. The writers define the same words from the male and female viewpoints and line them up side by side.

I especially like the definition of bridesmaid: She means "what you turn into when your best friend gets married and appoints you one of a bevy of personal slaves in hideous, identical dresses"/He means "someone to hit on at a wedding, she's usually vulnerable."

Maybe I was so tickled by this one because I was maid of honor and yes I was wearing a green taffetta Thing that probably looked hideous, but there were some other really good ones too. It's a humor book but under the jokes there is real stuff - I learned a few things about men and recognized a few things about women. My friends loved it too.

5.0 out of 5 stars perfect book for a boyfriend, February 17, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: He Meant She Meant: The Definitive Male/Female Dictionary (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the perfect book to give to a boyfriend. It's both fun to read and it gives some valuable remedial education in things that boys are clueless about (and so much falls into that category!). Cheers for Jenny Lyn Bader, for so gracefully bringing the guys up to speed!

5.0 out of 5 stars simply funny., February 8, 1998

This is the quick whit that guys dream of being able to come up with in the realm of everyday conversation. It can be a guide for us all. One should also say that the coastal humor plays well in the heartland. Possibly the most telling fact is, the authors don't have to resort to silly jokes about Iowa to draw a laugh. This book is for everyone, grandmothers excluded. An unqualified recomendation for all.

4.0 out of 5 stars A light hearted look at gender differences in word usages, December 18, 2008
This review is from: He Meant She Meant: The Definitive Male/Female Dictionary (Mass Market Paperback)

"He Meant/She Meant" is a light-hearted look at gender differences in word usages. Also, there is a serious attempt to show the differences in mind-set between American women and American men. There is a strong attempt to keep the humor light and 'G' rated.

The authors generally manage to correctly and authentically find appropriate nuances for each side of the comparisons of definitions.

I tend to wish that the book was somewhat more thorough and inclusive. I also wish the authors had included more serious material as well as the humorous material.

Among other things, this book, certainly, shows some of the flexibility of the American-English language and the ease of slipping into double-entendre.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, a must read for friends having a good time, February 10, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: He Meant She Meant: The Definitive Male/Female Dictionary (Mass Market Paperback)
When men and women get together, this book is ideal, fun and funny, also, from my standpoint, Bill Brazell is not only hillarious, his definitions are sometimes so true it is incredible!

5.0 out of 5 stars A clever feat that recalls Bierce's Devil's Dictionary, February 3, 1999

This review is from: He Meant She Meant: The Definitive Male/Female Dictionary (Mass Market Paperback)
A book like this could be just a novelty gift, but this one absolutely transcends the genre. I picked it up in the bookstore and couldn't stop laughing, until I finally gave in and bought it. I thought it was notably literary, and perfectly executed in a deadpan style.

The writing sparkles and is as lyrical as the finest prose. The book has found a place next to my first editions of Stendhal and Dylan Thomas. The pace never falters. First class. If only there were a hardcover...

The rest, with jokes about males who don't want relationships and cloying comments and women who store their whole lives in their purses, is stale. Stick with the original.
