"He Is My Defense" is from the "Galilee of the Nations" series. It includes Hebrew as well as English words/songs and is probably my favourite Marty Goetz CD. The music includes full orchestra backgrounds and the songs in this collection are straight out of Scripture so they naturally call you into worship. Marty has a unique voice and style that is gentle, pure and passionate for our Lord.

I had never heard of Marty Goetz until I saw him perform "Blessed is the Man" on the "Love Worth Finding" weekly TV program. This CD has that song and several others that are equally good. Many of the lyrics are straight from the Bible and Marty has an outstanding voice. One of the sweetest sounds I could ever hear are when my five-year old granddaughter sings along as I play, "Oh Lord, Our Lord" from the CD. Priceless.

What an inspiration this album brings! God uses Marty to bring us closer to Him with simple yet powerful lyrics taken from the Word itself. Some lyrics are sung in Hebrew, and all lyrics are printed in the cd jacket (including the Hebrew translations). I strongly recommend this for great spiritual feeding!

I have found this CD to be fully inspired... each song is like a prayer... its awesome! I would like to play some of these back on my own with a guitar, but I have not been able to purchase (find) the associated songbook or music sheets anywhere on the web. If anyone has a lead on this, feel free to e-mail me: kgyalokay@verizon.net

I have been recently introduced to the music of Marty Goetz through examples on youtube, which I enjoyed very much. So I ordered his cd "He is my defense" and just received it and listened through all of it.What are the strengths of this album. 1. I love the fact that it is not based on modern rock syncopation but based on the classical model of music. I have been very sad that too much Messianic music is based on modern rock syncopation and improper methods of form, at least in my view of beliefs. Marty is is a rarity of the classical model among Messianic music. Music even apart from lyrics can be moral or cross into immodest. The Westminster Larger Catechism list among violations of the seventh commandment as "lascivious songs, books, pictures, dancings" that crosses over into immodesty. 2. He uses proper singing method which is another rarity today. He does not sing portamento which modern music is replete with. Portamento is a vocal scooping or sliding when singing and if taken to far can be quite immodest. Although portamento continued to be widely used in popular music, it was disapproved of for singing by many critics in the 1920s and 1930s as a sign of either poor technique, or of bad taste, a mark of cheap sentimentalism or showiness. 3. He is very Hebraic. What are the weaknesses of this album. 1. I was very sad that he used the improper English translation of Yahushua in a few of his songs.. I think I counted he used "Jesus" 3 times. I bought this album in the hopes of replacing my christian music that sang Jesus to singing Yahushua. I am not one of those people that think you need to say the name of Yahushua to be saved but we are called to obedience and to reverence His name and not make it desolate (Third Commandment) and not to speak the name of other gods on our lips which I believe that "Je-sus" is. I do not mind at all if you want to use the transliterated Greek or even the English translation from the Greek, but it is not "Jesus", it is transliterated as Iesu in Greek and translated from Greek to Yesu in English. "Jesus" just does not cut it. 2. This one is not so big but just a footnote, I was surprised that he as a Messianic would use "Cross" instead of "the stake" on which Yahushua was hung on. The idea of the Cross comes from the Latin "Crux" and stems from Romanism and further back then that but that another issue, anyway, the greek "stauros" which means merely an upright stake, or pale. 3. I also wish that he did not used "adonai" for "YHVH" since that was done by the Masoretes in the 10th century A.D. When ever I say the Shema I always use YHVH in the proper places since I do not hold to the Rabbinic fear of saying YHVH's personal covenant name. But not a point that breaks the camel's back. 4. As an Exclusive Psalm singer in worship, I would not say that this is proper for worship but wonderful for listening at home or in the car and for enjoyment. Other then that it was a great album and I enjoyed it and will continue to listen to it, even with the weaknesses, though I will avoid the "Jesus" when singing, thankfully it is only just a few times..
