A Great New "Old" Hawaiian Combo!,
By Kimo Kapulu (California, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: He 'Olu (Audio CD)
If you listened to Hawaiian music in the 40s-60s - and liked it a lot - you'll love this CD. Hawaiian Airlines was featuring Holunape in their on board video presentation and I was happy to hear the sound of Hawaiian music that I grew up with. The three members of Holunape, Jeremy Hopkins, Kekoa Kaluhiwa and Brad Nakamura harmonize well in the traditional Hawaiian style, and include the necessary falsetto parts. Ukulele, guitar, upright bass, Hawaiian steel guitar and various incidental percussion provide that light, enjoyable "Mai Tai at the beach" sound. If you were in Hawaii in the 50s and 60s on "Boat Day" you would have heard this type of music everywhere welcoming the disembarking tourists. I have a good sized library of Hawaiian music and this is my current favorite. Try it - you'll like it!
