Product Description

"He Said She Said" started as a simple email and letter correspondence that took on a life of it's own. The letters turned into songs and the songs coalesced into a show that chronicles an evolving relationship between two enormously talented writers and performers. Sue and Peter have previewed the show to sold out crowds at the Epcor Center (Calgary AB) and the Winspear Center (Edmonton AB) as well as many dates through the US and the response from fans has been overwhelming. The songs are by turns simple, intimate, surprising, touching, and very funny; blues-tinged, torchy and rocking.

He Said She Said is a unique, daring idea beautifully executed by two talented, inspired artists unafraid to express themselves in songs of love, hope, longing, emptiness and frustration. A masterpiece. --Blues Revue Magazine

It's been a long time since "He" (Peter Karp) left the surroundings of swampy New Jersey and the rural grit of Southern Alabama to take his equal parts "Yankee-Rebel juxtaposition", as it states in his bio, to travel across the country, bringing his unique blend of roots rock, blues, and folk music to others. His songwriting has been compared to John Hiatt and John Prine and is regarded as one of the best guitarist-piano playing songwriters in the biz. His bio also claims, "Karp repeatedly transfixes his live audiences...with impressive guitar and slide licks infused by his love of Freddie King and Elmore James".

It's also been a long time since "She" (Sue Foley) has left the safe confines of small town Canada to come to Austin, Texas at the ripe young age of twenty-one. She quickly established herself amongst the elite blues guitarist in a blues guitarist saturated Austin. She has shared the stage with many masters of the blues and Americana or roots music; artists such as BB King, Buddy Guy, Lucinda Williams, and Tom Petty to name a few. Since then she has gone on to cultivate her own unique blend of the blues-rock genre. After moving back to Canada from Austin, she won the prestigious Juno award for her critically acclaimed CD "Love Coming Down".

You put these two together and you get their wonderful new collaboration titled, "He Said She Said" (Blind Pig Records).

This album is, in my opinion, a brilliant concept record, born from letters and emails the two had written to one another over a one-year period. The letters were turned into songs telling the story of their experiences on the road, expressing the loneliness and the difficulties caused by being separated from friends and family while on the road.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great on CD.Even Better in person. September 27, 2010
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I just saw Peter Karp and Sue Foley on Friday the 24th of September. As much as I love the CD, live really explored the relationship between the two and how the songs tell the story. The CD has even more meaning and depth for me now. Here's hoping they make another CD with the tons of songs they already have written! And a DVD would be great! This is the best roots/blues/folk CD in years!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Chemistry, Great Album March 20, 2011
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I can't add much to the other reviews. I've liked Sue Foley for quite awhile, and this is a terrific addition to her discography (if ok, a little bit departure too). I really enjoy this album-- great singing, playing and songs. I like how they're able to run a gamut from trad. blues to 'roots rock' to pop to jazz--and even traces of flamenco--so effortlessly. And they really update at times Lee Hazlewood/Nancy Sinatra (and even a bit Louis Prima/Keely Smith!) so well-- without making a big fuss about it. Some may find it a little too 'unplugged': that doesn't bother me at all, and in fact I find that an advantage. A great idea, great duo.

Bought this CD blindly and chose to take it on a road trip. Great variety and a lot of energy. Would highly recommend especially if you are tired of the same old same old.
