Really great dark comedy,

If you like this genre, you'd have to agree that this is a fantastic dark comedy. It's not slapstick or gross-out--just an interesting story with lots of irony and lots of twists. I loved this movie because it's so unpredictable and things go from bad to worse all because of a questionable decision made at the beginning of the story. This is not "the greatest movie ever made" (see earlier review), but it definitely doesn't stink. It's very clever and you will probably want to see it again to pick up on some of the subtleties. I was very pleasantly surprised because I hadn't heard of it at the theaters and yet it was such a treat to watch. In my opinion, this was much more enjoyable and creative than There's Something About Mary. In fact, I think it's Cameron Diaz's best movie. If you like her work, you owe it to yourself to rent it. Harvey Keitel is also excellent as the husband. And if you're reading this Cameron, will you marry me? :-)

I cant beleive im the first person to review this film. Its so about time it was released on DVD. Well Art House movies dont always get my attention but this flick is brilliant. Harvey Keitel and Cameron Diaz dazzle in the story about a high profile judge who weds a previous defendant in one of his court cases, though she is at least 30 years his junior!! Things just seem to get tougher for Diaz as the movie goes on to hide her ex (dead)lover in their house on a beautiful island off the Boston coast. The scenery is fantastic, the acting superb, this movie will take you away from the everyday. Soundtrack is excellent. Enjoy

Most Enjoyable, with excellent performances from Harvey and Cameron Diaz. Well worth watching. The photographic work and locations are also pleasing to the eye

I love movies that make me laugh and this one did. Harvey Keitel was great and very funny. Cameron Diaz was good too, though I fail to see her "beauty". To me she is very average looking, but good at being ditzy when acting. I never liked Keitel until I saw this movie. It was a movie like "When Bad Things Happen", Diaz having been in that one with Christian Slater, but this one was comedy and irony whereas "When Bad Things Happen" (I hope I have that title correct) was irony and serious. I will watch this one again. Worth the price.

Interesting thriller that starts out fairly decent but gets confused and muddled and really unbeliveable toward the end. For the Die-Hard Cameron fan only. (Come to think of it, what guy isn't?)

The worst acting I've ever seen and a ridiculous, totally predictable plot. Harvey Keitel has reached a new low, and the rest of the cast need to go back to acting school.

A very quirky black comedy that had me laughing out loud.
I would recommend this movie to anyone looking for a laugh. It is reminiscent of Alfred Hitchcock in it's off beat comedic cadence.

The movie is good but a little out there. It was delivered timely and it was exactly what I ordered.

This movie "Head Above Water" (1997) is packed with top-notch actors such as Harvey Keitel and Cameron Diaz. A plus is the great aquatic scenery.
You want to start figuring out what is going to happen from the beginning of the story. You may draw conclusions; however you are wrong. As the different problems arise for each of the characters, their correction attempts only cause the problems to snowball. I keep thinking of Dave Barry "Big Trouble" [UNABRIDGED] ISBN: 1567404596 and how Dave starts out saying something that seems innocuous and soon it gets blown out of proportion and you find yourself defending some indefensible illogical stance. This film starts out with a simple problem that in the end looks ridiculous. But at the very last moment it takes care of its self (or does it?) Did I mention it is a lot of fun? |
