Biography

When Hanni El Khatib started out, he was just a skater kid playing the world's worst guitar and singing by himself. Inspired by a long line of determined do-it-for-themselves musicians winding back through punk and psychedelia to rock 'n' roll and early r&b and finally the first scratchy years of the blues, he'd record song after bare-bones song -- in between day jobs and ... Editorial Reviews

Head In The Dirt, produced by Dan Auerbach, is the second album by Hanni El Khatib, where he takes a lucky 11 songs and makes the entire history of rebel music something all his own. He's got cut-to-the-bone Rhythm 'n' Blues and over-cranked Stooges-style stompers. He's got bottomless Black Sabbath riff-outs and Dub-a-delic garageland rockers that call up the spirits of the Clash and the Equals both. By the end of Head In The Dirt, you'll realize that El Khatib actually made something out of everything.

Very few times do I like every song on an album. This album is absolutely an album in which each song has something different to appreciate about it. With Dan Auerbach producing it, of course the production quality of this album is amazing. But the songs themselves are also very unique in that they seem to capture a different influences very well. These songs show a lot of influences from the Stooges, Equals, I catch some of the Pixies style on here, specifically some lines that resemble the distortion riffs from "Where Is Mind," and influences from modern rock artists like The Black Keys. As a guitar player, I have lived listening to this album for the album's tones and style. Absolutely recommend this one!

I am extremely picky.
I don't listen to Katy Perry or The Black Keys, nor do I listen to the radio. Call me a hipster or what have you, I've accepted it. Queen, Portishead, The Heavy, The Civil Wars, Meatloaf, Johnny Cash, Die Antwoord and Robert Johnson dominate my playlists.

HEK is like James Brown met Buddy Holly in a dark alley, they went out drinking with Johnny Cash and at the end of the night when everyone was drunk and sloppy, they all made sweet, sweet love, and that's when Hanni el Khatib was born. His music is part funk, part soul, blues and garage rock all combined and baked at 350. Influenced by 1950s and 1960s american culture, Hannity el Khatib's music is in a sexy, sexy genre of its own.

If you like Rock-n-Roll, you will like this album. I like everything about this album and my tastes are specific. Give me guitars, drums, bass, organ, and vocals that I can sing and dance along with. No rapping, no electronics where they don't belong. There you have it. It's a fantastic album.

I am here to encourage Amazon customers to give this album a try. I have been listening to it all weekend. It sticks to your head, skin and bones. Haven't been able to concentrate on any other music since I have heard it. Every song gives you a different taste. I'm pretty confident cuts from this album will be featured in commercials, features and exercise classes in the months to come. Get this. You you'll be able to say you heard it first.

Definitely a solid album. For some, I imagine it will fall short of expectations if they wanted a redux of the raw, dirty blues rockabilly album "Will the Guns Come Out?" It surpassed my initial feelings of wanting just that. I didnt know that i really wanted a more produced, polished sound. I dig it. Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys produced tha album and it is a perfect match. Buy stock in this dude.

I love Hanni, I think he is incredibly talented and that is why I think he should have produced his own album. Head In The Dirt is ok, if your into radio friendly music, but it's too "polished" for me. I cant help but feel Dan Auerbach made this a Dan Auerbach album and not a Hanni El Khatib album. It sounds over produced and definitely lacks Hanni's gritty, dirty, heavy, honest sound.

Absolutely one of my favorite artists these days and he rocks hard. Every song is good. Don't forget his first album folks, This guy means business. Hanni El Khatib will blow you away. Sit down in a chair and turn it up, like the old commercial from a well known speaker company. Enjoy!.
