5.0 out of 5 stars insane apocalyptic good time death bluegrass, November 1, 2007

punk appalachan, death country, there's no way to accurately describe this band. they sound and look insane, possessed by spirits maybe. their music is like the soundtrack to a blood orgy in the country part of hell.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Band In New York, August 6, 2007
This review is from: Head Home (Audio CD)
The first time I saw this band there were three people there. Every last one of them, me included went insane, danced all night, and bought their album on the spot. Last time they came to my neighborhood in Brooklyn, we had to fight through a line around the block just to get in. This new album remix goes a long way towards capturing their frenetic live sound, but it will never replace the stomping, chanting, black mass of the real thing. Get the album. See them live.

I saw them twice during the CMJ Marathon - shirtless and mindblowing. Anyone would love this music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dirty Bluegrass, January 25, 2008

This is a great album. A very unique take on bluegrass, what I'd call dirty bluegrass. It's raw and gritty and aggressive. Think "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" with a kick in the pants and gravel in the throat.

If you like roots music and eclectic rock as well, you should appreciate how this band has melded both genres. This album really reminds me of the Violent Femmes first two albums, which were basically rootsy acoustic punk. And the vocals are somewhat simililar although more squeaky and creaky is the O'Death vocalist. This album is acoustic at heart, eccentric in spirit, pure in its energy, and uplifting in its sound. I hope these guys stay on course and successful. We really need more like them!

Why four stars and not five? I guess it's because some parts drone on a bit too long for me--but that's only a few minutes of dissatisfaction!
