Five guys, maybe three shirts between ÿthem, take to the stage. There's a banjo, a fiddle, a drum set littered with gas cans, chains, and broken cymbals. Then they all start howling, stomping; ÿit's an anachronistic jug band party in a junkyard with sing-along hooks and ÿweathered vocals from another time. Their fans, an ever-expanding ÿcongregation, sing along and follow the band with an almost religious fervour, ÿand as vocalist Greg Jamie's eyes roll back into his head there's a sense ÿthat something almost sinisterly spiritual has overtaken everyone in the room. This is the world of O'Death. musical influences as divergent as Bill Monroe, Prince, Dock Boggs, Neil Young and The Misfits.

punk appalachan, death country, there's no way to accurately describe this band. they sound and look insane, possessed by spirits maybe. their music is like the soundtrack to a blood orgy in the country part of hell.

The first time I saw this band there were three people there. Every last one of them, me included went insane, danced all night, and bought their album on the spot. Last time they came to my neighborhood in Brooklyn, we had to fight through a line around the block just to get in. This new album remix goes a long way towards capturing their frenetic live sound, but it will never replace the stomping, chanting, black mass of the real thing. Get the album. See them live.

I saw them twice during the CMJ Marathon - shirtless and mindblowing. Anyone would love this music.
