4.0 out of 5 stars "Beware the Furniture Movers"
Ah, a long forgotten cult classic from the 80s. Frankly, this was Judge Reinhold's best movie after "Fast Times" and if he'd made a few more like this, he might have avoided appearing in those Volvo commercials.

This movie takes about the same cynically detached view of corporate America as Blake Edward's "S.0.B." took toward the movie industry. The thing...

3.0 out of 5 stars Snoozer with a few high points
Many of the so-called stars of the film (Danny DeVito, for example) are cameo characters (in Rick Moranis's case that's a good thing). The writing is lame and aimless for the first good half hour. * SPOILERS * It suddenly picks up when they smoke a joint on the way to the small town factory they're closing down and Jack, fresh out of school, gives them the truth as to...

The thing about this movie that bears attention is that, even if it is "just" an 80s farce starring a lot of actors who haven't done much lately, the issues it raises, primarily the offshoring of American jobs, are even more relevant today than they were then.

The cast, as a whole, is first rate. Judge Reinhold is the recent business school graduate courted by the massive INC Corporation for his Senator father's favors. As a result, he manages to get promoted repeatedly no matter how badly he screws up. He winds up doing the right thing just to stay alive.

Eddie Albert is the CEO who personally presides over decisions to disconnect the telephones of deliquient customers. ("The check's not in the mail. I own the mail.")

Jane Seymour is an icily ambitious executive climbing the corporate ladder on her back, as it were. Danny DeVito is another executive on his way down the ladder via the express elevator. Rick Moranis is the marketing executive who seems to be permanently connected to a blood-pressure collar. Richard Masur is Reinhold's deeply cynical and extremely stoned mentor and Don Novello turns in his Guido Sarduci threads for a chauffeur's uniform.

All in all, this DVD is well worth the bargain price they're charging.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE true look into the bowels of Corporate America !!!, August 18, 1999
This review is from: Head Office [VHS] (VHS Tape)
A movie for the ages! An all-star cast that provides a dry, satirical look into what we all despise and yet tolerate in Corporate America. From lines like "the company giveth, the company taketh away..." to "...do you think I got to the head of this division because I'm a moron? NO! I got to the head of this division because...I...I...I'm NOT a moron". Truly a movie that did not get the ratings it deserved. It definitely rivals the likes of Blazing Saddles, Stripes, Trading Places, Caddy Shack, Spies Like Us, Fletch, etc. A must see if you've ever been employed by a company of 100 employees or more!

5.0 out of 5 stars head office, March 21, 2001
This review is from: Head Office [VHS] (VHS Tape)
A cult favorite and my personal guilty pleasure. Richard Masur and Don Novello (famous as Father Guido Sarducci on SNL) are but two of the cast of characters that make this movie hilarious. Eddie Albert is fabulous as the CEO of INC who keeps in touch with the people by personally reviewing whose phone service should be disconnected for overdue bills. Don King steals the movie with his speech to the board of the directors. This is one of my all time favorite comedies.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gut busting laughter, July 7, 2000

This review is from: Head Office [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is one of those movies that offers me moments when I can't catch my breath from laughing. I have seen it a number of times and the Rick Moranas conversation with his Mercedes dealer almosts kills me every time. It has a number of very subtle corporate digs that will make you laugh till you cry if you catch them as they whiz by.

If you have ever had a real job, you must see this movie. My favorite scene is when Don King (yes, that Don King) and others are giving presentations to the Board.

5.0 out of 5 stars A movie for everyone in business, March 17, 2010

When the CEO of a large corporation can't have someone killed what good is it to be the CEO. This is just a start with Head Office. This movie should be a must for anyone working in a large corporation. The characters are just great, "I didn't make that decision, I just ahhhhh approved someone elses decision."

For a a good light hearted comedy this is one realistic movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Movie, Great Price!!, December 13, 2007
This review is from: Head Office (DVD)
My husband & I were so happy to see that this movie was out on DVD we bought it right away. Used to have it on VHS, but those days are definitely bygone. Amazon is a really great source to find those older classics that you love on DVD that you can't find at any of the stores. Also Amazon has awesome customer service, we had a problem with the order, I got someone else's to begin with, but I was actually able to speak with a rep who straightened everything out instead of just having to frustratingly deal with the issue online. Great Movie, Great Price.

Some of the stars missing from the description are:

1. Jane Seymour in the funniest thing she's ever done as a barracuda sleeping her way to the top.

2. Judge Rienhold as the corporate neophyte.

3. Rick Masur who explains the unvarnished subtext of the movie.

4. Don King as a an over the top charachiture of a token board member.

This movie has so many funny lines and situations. If more people were aware of it, it would surely become a cult classic. So check it out and pass the word.
