Ozzie & Harriet singing vocal duets is great...,
By A Customer
This review is from: Head Over Heels in Love (Audio CD)
This cd of mostly 1930's radio broadcasts, is really enjoyable. Ozzie & Harriet sing plenty of duets, and Harriet takes some sultry vocal solos. Ozzie plays a little sax, here & there. And Ozzie had a pretty swingin' band. THis CD is recommended. It belongs in every jazz, swing, and vocal lovers music library.

A BAND OF MUSICAL UNDERSTATEMENT,
By
This review is from: Head Over Heels in Love (Audio CD)
The heading is not original, but is quoted in the liner note as being from a 1935 Downbeat review. Now I don't know whether the author was being sincere or diplomatic, but I suspect the latter. The fact is that for the most part these tracks are fairly soporific, an exception being "Yes Suh". The acid test of a dance band is does it make you feel like dancing? Sadly, for this reviewer, the answer is No. As to the two vocalists, namely Ozzie Nelson and his wife Harriet, they are both competent but not memorable. So I can't work up any great enthusiasm for this compilation, but those who want just to hear tunes played straight, with audible lyrics, may be content.
