5.0 out of 5 stars from the heavens above
this album is the holy grail of all albums. it surpasses anything i've ever heard, and everything i will ever hear. and i laugh at the guy who says the lyrics are meaningless. you don't buy an album because people have the same problems like you. that's what rehab is for. this cd isn't rehab. it's ecstacy. rock on.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
This one feels like a letdown after the driving, ballsy _Regretfully Yours_. "Do the Vampire" and "Shuck & Jive" are the best here; the others deploy strings and acoustic guitars only to bore and drag the compositions out.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Album, June 15, 2005

I saw Superdrag for the first and only time during their spring 1998 tour for "Headtrip In Every Key". To this day it remains a defining moment in my life. I was blown away by their performance and stage presence, to say the least. I bought this record shortly after seeing that show- I HAD to. I had no choice in the matter.

I'm a fan of classic rock and pop and am a sucker for a good melody and a catchy hook, but "Headtrip" is much more than that. Simply put, this album is astonishing in its production and depth. John Davis is bar-none the most talented musician out there today. His ability to craft songs and lyrics of such a high caliber is stunning, and on Superdrag's second record it shines all over! Never have the band sounded so tight and so damn good! In my opinion, the members of the band during this period were the quintessential core of what Superdrag was. There were several lineup changes following this album and the chemistry of the band was never quite the same afterwards.

Easily the best of Superdrag's work (followed by "Regretfully Yours") In all honesty, this just may be my all-time favorite record. The tunes are laced with emotion and vigor of an unparalled magnitude. This is truly an underrated classic and a goldmine of a find. I felt special listening to this for the first time, like I'd discovered a beautiful secret. Final analysis: PERFECT SONGS FOR A FLAWLESS ALBUM. It just doesn't get any better than this. God bless you, John Davis.

5.0 out of 5 stars Utterly Amazing, March 23, 2005

So what do you do when you've had a major hit single and the label wants you to release your second album? You spend their funds making your masterpiece. That's exactly what John Davis and company did for 'Head Trip...'. Production-wise, it's phenomenal. The songs are great, just classic. Although I've loved every Superdrag release, this album holds the throne as their shining moment. Incredible power-pop for any true fan.

god superdrag rules the world, atleast my world. the album title explains it all, it is a headtrip. it can rock your socks, or it can be calm, all within two or three songs. if there was only one cd i could listen too for the rest of my life it would be this one. because there is no other band, that can combine emotion and music so well, except for the beatles. head trip will make you feel the way the music tends too, you can dance to do the vampire, or cry to the art of dying. but i guarantee this album will make you think

5.0 out of 5 stars A step up from the debut., April 2, 2000
This review is from: Head Trip in Every Key (Audio CD)
I can't quite explain it, but there's something in the way "Head Trip In Every Key" sounds that I just can't get enough of. From first track straight through to the last, and that's not something I usually do. I find a song or two I really like, and only listen to them....but this album I just can't turn off. Favorite tracks: "Do The Vampire", "Wrong Vs. Right Doesn't Matter", "Expanding My Mind"

5.0 out of 5 stars Expanding your Ears, July 20, 2008
This review is from: Head Trip in Every Key (Audio CD)
Without a doubt this album is in my top ten and has been since I heard it 10 years ago. It stands the test of time. Superdrag has been catagorized as power pop and I guess that's close enough. They offer a perfect blend of noise and melodic songwriting. If you've never heard them this is a great place to start. It shows Superdrag with their lushest orchestrations. But the orchestrations aren't so lush that you will want to break somebody's violin. The lyrics are top notch, heartfelt. The type you can embrace whole-heartedly, with melodies that will make it hard not to sing along with. I could name standout songs but the truth is there isn't a bad one in the bunch...I guess my three favorites are Bankrupt Vibration, I'm Expanding My Mind and She Is A Holy Grail.

When the album is over you might be left scratching your head wondering why this wasn't a smash hit because this is an extremely accessible album...this is how top 40 radio should sound.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superdrag's Sophmore Album Shows Them Stretching Their Wings, April 28, 2004

Head Trip in Every Key shows everyone that Superdrag isn't a one trick pony. Their second album also shows that they can dig deep and create music that is commercially strong and artistic.

As listeners, we hear Superdrag's feelings for Major Labels and the radio industry. Songs like "Do the Vampire", and "Bankrupt Vibration" point a finger at the problems in pop music and record companies and how they leech on to the next big thing, and once bled dry, move on to their next victim. I guess this might be why this is their last album with Electra.

"Head trip In Every Key" is a fantastic album by a band that hasn't received enough national airplay. Every song is a genuine example of pop excellence. John Davis has proven his merit as a songwriter, "Expanding My Mind" is the definition of lyrical genius. I cannot say enough about this album. If you are a fan of well-written pop riffs and intelligent lyrics, this is a must buy.

Superdrag is nothin' better than the best when it comes to rock and roll bands that care about their music and the way that they make all of us get up out of our chairs and move. This album, including the title song, will get you geared up for their other albums, including their newest "In the Valley....". Go out for Superdrag, don't hold back and they will not definitely let you down!!!
