1) I own the old Headblade Sport.. it works well.. the ATX for me works far better due to a better/bigger grip than the Sport.. that's just me..

2) some don't like "pulling" vs "pushing..." I prefer pulling... the wheels on the ATX are larger and smoother than the sport.. both perform well.

3) I don't particularly care for the blades from headblade.. I use Gillette Sensor blades because I can buy them in bulk cheaper than the ATX blades.. I don't care about 4 vs 6 vs 2.. the adapter on the Sport for Sensor fits the ATX fine.. both blades work well, but Sensors are cheaper for me, so I use those. Sensor Excel specifically.

4) the cream Head Slick gunks up and works really well otherwise, but the best results I've gotten by FAR are with Every Man Jack shave cream, or Bull Dog.. either way, these creams blow the Headslick away.. they are all good , though. Every Man Jack is paraben free, made in USA (as are Headslick, Bull Dog).. the ATX and Sport devices are made in China, fyi.

to summarize.. it's not that I am making a revelation.. I am using Sensor XCel blades with the ATX.. and Everyman Jack... I often do cut myself because I struggle with doing my "sides.." I generally angle the ATX and move it UPWARDS from behind/above ear UPWARDS.. that yields the closest shave for me.. I cut myself once out of every 30 shaves.. and I use the ATX twice daily.. the cuts are always VERY small.. I do this with the Sport, or ATX + ATX blades.. that's just me.

This device has really been a great thing for me.. I used to use a Panasonic Electric razor.. I still do in a pinch, but I get 5x the closer shave with the ATX or Sport than electric.. I am simply used to, now, the ATX.. it's larger, smoother, and easier to maneuver..

My mom bought me the ATX HeadBlade for my birthday. At first I thought it was a stupid toy car but after I saw that it was a razor, it looked like a stupid razor. I thought, "There's no way this piece of junk is going to work". I usually shave my head everyday with a Mach 3 but I hadn't shaved my head in over a month. I used clippers to get the majority of the hair off and then used the headblade. It didn't work wonders but it did an ok job and it was alot faster than using a regular razor. When I got back to my house a few days later, I used it again and it worked marvelously. I thought the Mach 3 was good but this thing did a better and faster job. It even got the two tough spots on the top/back/sides really well. So even though it looks kinda dumb, this thing works very well.

Replaced my HeadBlade Sport, this is a much nicer product. Very close shave, differs from the Sport in that it is more of a pulling the blade across as opposed to pushing it. 4 Blades provides a smoother shaved and since the blade is at the back of the device, it countours and "gives" more to the curves of my head.

Excellent upgrade for any HeadBlade user, or those who are looking to convert.

The first time I shaved my head I made the mistake of using my regular razor! After a lot of nicks and cuts I found the HeadBlade ATX. The HeadBlade ATX works great! Since your head is much harder and is more uneven than your face the spring loaded blade design on the ATX is perfect. The ATX follows the natural contours of your head without gouging or digging in. Also the ergonomic design of the ATX is much more natural to hold than trying to use a regular razor. Just make sure to take your time. If you try to rush like when you are shaving your face you can still press down a little too hard and cut yourself. Use very light pressure and just let the ATX glide over your head. You are much better off going over an area more than once than pressing down too hard and dredging out a brain sample.

Unfortunately, as much as I love my old model I can't recommend this one. It doesn't provide a close shave. The old model provides a close shave with one or two strokes. This one, just doesn't.

Update-

I replaced the original adapter and blade from a refill package. For whatever reason, it now works much better. The original blade and adapter never worked from the start. So far, so good with the 4 blade replacement. The old version remains slightly better.

I've been shaving my head for a few months using my old, trusty Mach3 and have never had any problems beyond an errant nick behind my ear because I swept a little too close. I heard about the Headblade ATX and its promises of the greatest head-shave since the dawn of time, so with high hopes and higher expectations I ordered a razor and a bottle of their HeadSlick having cream directly from their website.

I watched several video reviews and demonstrations & read the user's manual when it arrived (a largely useless little slip of paper which I can only assume was included to satisfy legal requirements). I felt excited and reasonably well-prepared to finally try it out this evening in the shower.

...The following 5 minutes constituted the single worst shaving experience of my life; not because it was awkward to "wear" (it was), nor because it didn't seem to shave anywhere near as close as my old hand razor (it didn't), nor even because it took twice as many passes as my old razor to satisfactorily smooth out an area (it did)...but because on the 3rd or 4th pass over the back of my head, the Headblade ripped a chunk the size of my thumbnail right out of my scalp.

I bled like a stuck pig and now look like I'm suffering the beginning stages of leprosy. Even after it heals, the skin on the scalp is very delicate so it's entirely likely this will leave a scar. I'd gladly accept that maybe I just screwed up and temporarily forgot how to shave, but as soon as that happened I switched back to the old razor and finished with zero further issues.

Under NO circumstance should a product designed to perform one and ONLY ONE extremely specific task present a hazard when applied to that task. All it's meant to do is shave a head.
