Book Description

Make no mistake about it . . . the job market remains very, very competitive as we enter 2015.

Yes, more jobs are finally being created BUT the number of currently employed people looking for new opportunities, according to LinkedIn, is up to 50%. That means over 70 million people are interested in new jobs.

How can you compete?

In "Headhunter" Hiring Secrets, I will walk you through the process of how to turn your job search into a job found.

For example:

• A direct mail campaign is the technique working the best right now. Pages 165 and 166 provides you with examples of letters used in a direct mail campaign that got both people hired.

• Word for word scripts (pages 195 to 214) on what to say (and not to say) when you PUTT (pick up the telephone) and call a hiring manager.

• Page 293 - 14 questions superstars ask during an interview that will ensure you stand out.

• How to "lead the witness," i.e. how to take control of the interview.

• Avoiding the "shadows on the wall syndrome."

• ...and the list goes on.

If you have gotten this far in reading this overview, send me an email at skip.freeman@hiretowin.com and put on the subject line "Interview Guide." I will send you a free copy of the "Interview Preparation Guide" we provide to all of our candidates which increases their odds of winning the job by over 30% (when compared to the candidates companies interview from other recruiting firms).

And no matter what, remember that, for the most part, job boards are a black hole. One major job board recently published a case study illustrating how one client’s job posting, through the use of their multi-pronged social media ad blitzing, received 50,000 applicants for that one job. Result – works great for the hiring company…not so much for the job seeker. The odds of any one job seeker winning that opportunity were 0.002% !!)

About the Author

The job market is as hypercompetitive as ever. Not only are there 11 million unemployed people interested in new opportunities, but according to Manpower and LinkedIn, 70 million currently employed people are interested in new opportunities. Why? Their career has stalled!

No one knows this better than Skip Freeman who, in "Headhunter" Hiring Secrets, reveals his powerful techniques for enabling today's job hunter to transform himself/herself from just another job seeker into one who stands out and gets hired. He has successfully completed more than 355 executive search assignments in just eight years. Specializing in the placement of sales, engineering and manufacturing professionals in industry, he has developed powerful techniques that help companies hire the best and help the best get hired.

What makes "Headhunter" Hiring Secrets different? Skip, as a "headhunter," places people into companies. He is 100% commissioned. If his methods do not work, i.e., he does not place his candidate into a position, he doesn't get paid! He doesn't eat!

Skip is in the JOB HUNT BATTLE EVERY DAY OF HIS LIFE! What he does MUST WORK! All too many job hunting books are written by HR professionals and career counselors who will get their salary or their "career counseling consulting fee" regardless of whether you get hired or not.

You will find that Skip's proven "headhunter" techniques will powerfully change how you think, make you adaptable, unleash your creativity and maximize all of your personal assets. You will transform yourself from just another job seeker into one who stands-out…and gets hired! Skip teaches you HOW TO PLACE YOURSELF...HOW TO RISE ABOVE YOUR COMPETITION AND WIN THE JOB YOU WANT instead of letting it go to someone else.

Skip, a distinguished graduate of the United States Military Academy, West Point, is a lifelong student of leadership, people and the principles of success. While serving in the US Army Corps of Engineers and Chemical Corps, he earned a MS degree in Organic Chemistry from The Georgia Institute of Technology and an MBA from Long Island University.

"Job search" and those who are "in-transition" are near and dear to my heart as a result of the ministry I have been involved in since the [...] bust in 2001. My colleagues and I have assisted over 500 C-level executives, managers and professionals across many industry domains in defining and finding their life's next chapter.

As a "Top 500 Reviewer" for Amazon, I have also noticed a geometric increase in "Job-search" and career coaching books; some of the better ones I have reviewed (see my Amazon list of books for those "in-transition" and make sure you vote on those reviews you like). While most of these books echo the proven path to job search success - take time out, take stock, make a plan, develop your marketing tools, network, etc. - they usually have their unique character adding a unique twist and valuable advice not found elsewhere.

Georgian (Atlanta), West Pointer, successful recruiter, and now author, Skip Freeman, has given us a book, "Headhunter Hiring Secrets: The Rules of the Hiring Game Have Changed Forever!", that is no exception. He, too, has provided unique and valuable tips, or "secrets" not found elsewhere. Freeman begins his book with the statement that the rules of hiring have changed forever and throughout the book, makes the case that the hiring process is flawed. Those in search mode MUST become aware of how to play today's hiring "game" or suffer the consequences.

No longer is the hiring process one of inclusion but one of exclusion. "During each and every step of the hiring process, hiring managers and hiring companies are not trying to identify job applicants they can include in their `hiring pool,' but rather, they are trying to determine as quickly as possible how many applicants can be excluded from the `pool.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Game Changer - The New Rules for Job Hunting August 2, 2010
Format:Paperback
Length: 3:45 Mins
FACT: The job market is a viciously competitive and is being played with new rules. It's way more aggressive than any you've seen before and it's going to stay that way!

I have been in Executive Search since 1986 and have worked all over America. The last two years I witnessed the rules of the hiring game change forever. Let me explain what I mean.

How many job seekers are out there? About 80 million! You read the surveys from Monster, ExecuNet, Manpower, etc., and every survey states that 40% to 70% of "currently employed" workers (and there are about 140 million of them), are unhappy and ready to make a change. So, when the "perfect opportunity" comes along and you respond, you aren't just competing against the 15 million unemployed...you are competing against the other millions currently employed and looking. People who also want that job! That's an aggressive marketplace.

And to top it off, I'd say 90% of the openings are never posted so you have to be aggressive going after what you want - those companies with a future - with a laser like focus, and a great story.

I'm the author of Guerrilla Marketing for Job hunters 2.0 and the Wall Street Journal labeled me the "Rogue Recruiter" because of my unconventional tactics. Well unconventional is now the new NORMAL so step-up. I am an industry `insider" and I'm telling you Skip's book nailed it.

Skip tells you in hard-hitting, straight to the point language, how to position yourself to win this new game. I liken it to being a "war game" and in doing battle you must use Guerrilla Tactics. What Skip adds to your play book literally are secrets known by just a few of us: knowledge of what rules hiring companies are and are not playing by.

5.0 out of 5 stars Before Even Looking For A Job Read This! February 21, 2011
By TexDr
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Although I am a frequent buyer of many products (especially books) from Amazon, I've never actually written a review until now. So why now? Well, for one, I thought this book was that good. I've been fortunate to be gainfully employed for over 15 years, so I haven't had to actually look for a job recently. Yes, I've kept my resume reasonably updated, and friends who reviewed my resume said it looked fine. Back when I last looked for a job was back in the early 90's, the wonderful dot.com years. In those days, you uploaded your resume to a job board, applied online to a few postings, and reviewed your options. The game has certainly changed.

Before buying this book I tried the same techniques I used 15 years ago (assuming those job boards were still in existence). The results; I got a fair amount of email for positions that are not even related to my specialty, I get job postings for positions that are half way across the country, and on the occasions I actually sent my resume to a job posting I've heard nothing back. On the occasional phone interviews I have done, they go absolutely no where. Even though I'm still employed, I was really beginning to become stressed. I know the job market is more competitive than ever before, but I didn't realize that the job market had changed so dramatically and that almost everything I had been doing up to this point has probably done nothing more than get my resume thrown in the "excluded" pile.

Let me share why I think Skip's book is that good.

1. Skip is direct and straightforward in his writing. His book is not about job theory, or repeating the same techniques that have worked for many job seekers for years and years.

More About the Author

Skip Freeman
Headhunter, Engineer, Author

Skip Freeman is the president and chief executive officer of The HTW Group (Hire to Win), an Atlanta, GA, Metropolitan Area Executive Search Firm. In that capacity, he is consistently among the top executive recruiters in the nation, on the basis of total candidate placements. Over the last seven years, he has successfully completed more than 300 executive search assignments. Specializing in the placement of sales, engineering, manufacturing and R&D professionals, he has developed powerful techniques that help companies hire the best and help the best get hired.

He is a 1976 distinguished graduate of the United States Military Academy, West Point. He served as a commissioned officer in both the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers and the U. S. Army Chemical Corps. Assignments included serving as platoon leader of a combat engineer platoon, command of a Nuclear, Biological and Chemical group and as a chemistry instructor at West Point. Skip was awarded two U. S. Army Commendation Medals, a Meritorious Service Medal and a Humanitarian Service Medal.

Skip is a lifelong student of leadership, people and the principles of success. While serving in the U. S. Army, he also earned a Master of Science degree in Organic Chemistry from The Georgia Institute of Technology and a Master of Business Administration degree in Marketing from Long Island University.

During his time with the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, Skip led one of the military units responsible for removing highly radioactive debris and contamination from Enewetak Atoll, a site in the Pacific used for nuclear weapons testing in the 1950s and 1960s. Honing his engineering platoon into a well-functioning unit, he kept his project ahead of schedule and under budget through planning, establishing key performance indicators, developing the right processes and having the right people, all four being foundational pillars of The HTW Group ("Hire to Win") today.

Following his tour of duty as an instructor at West Point, he moved into industry. As a field sales representative for a $4 billion specialty chemical company, he achieved the company's highest level of recognition by his third year. With this proven track record of success, he further progressed into various sales management roles and was Vice President of Sales and Marketing for an industrial filtration company before starting The HTW Group in 2003.

Skip's new book, "Headhunter" Hiring Secrets: The Rules of the Hiring Game Have Changed . . . Forever!, was released in late January 2010 on Amazon.com, where it has consistently been ranked in the "top 100" in the job hunting books category. Critics have already dubbed Skip's book as "the new 'bible' for today's job seekers," a "must read" for anyone serious about getting a new job in today's (and tomorrow's) challenging job market. "Headhunter" Hiring Secrets outlines in detail what the NEW rules of the hiring game are, as well as provides job-seekers with step-by-step, from beginning-to-end instructions and guidance on how to use these NEW rules to their advantage and effectively apply the winning tactics and strategies he uses everyday as a "headhunter" to successfully place people in a turbulent job market and dynamic global economy.

Additionally, one of the principles of success that Skip firmly believes in is the principle of giving back. He speaks at local church Career Ministries and has been a guest speaker at the Georgia Institute of Technology, Kennesaw State University and the University of Alabama. He is also one of the featured speakers at the award-winning Mastering Executive Job Change seminar held monthly in Atlanta, GA.

Skip can be reached at skip.freeman@hiretowin.com or through the LinkedIn Group Job Hunting Power.
