5.0 out of 5 stars What a Tease, November 14, 2006
This review is from: Headlock (Audio CD)
Imogen Heap is one of a VERY small handful of artists whose music is so engraved on my brain from over-listening to it that I barely have the need to actually put it in the player anymore. Even this had proven satisfactory until I inadvertantly stumbled across this disc's bonus track on MySpace of all places. The song, "Mic Check," suddenly left me craving all new Imogen Heap like I haven't since I heard "Let Go" for the first time. The song is ENTIRELY vocal. The standard (did I just blaspheme?) Imogen Heap effects are there, or course, but all sounds on the song proceed from her mouth with the exception of perhaps the base track which sounds startlingly similar to Bobby McFerrin, although I haven't checked that.

Having seen her live and up close, I can vouch for the vocal authenticity of the track. If you're already a fan, this is a must have and certainly meets and/or exceeds the bar. If you've never listened to her music before, you might do better to start with her 2002 effort under the auspice of Frou Frou, then move on from there. As for me, I have once again contracted Heap-fever.
