This review is from: From Headrack to Claude (Paperback)
While it may seem unfortunate that a cartoonist of Howard Cruse's caliber and bona-fide legendary status has to self-publish a retrospective of his work, it's a good thing to have out in the world (and I know from experience that in the comics world sometimes self-publishing is more financially lucrative than going with a small press). This book collects all of Cruse's gay-themed work, including his genuine masterpieces from the early 1980s issues of Gay Comix: "Billy Goes Out", "Safe Sex" and "Cabbage Patch Clone", as well as later work, such as the NEA themed one-pager "Homoeroticism Blues" from 1990, all longtime favorites of mine that I've reread countless times through the years. Also included here are several items reprinted from the Village Voice and other places that I'd never seen before - a real bonus, as many of these stories are already collected in Cruse's previous anthology, 1987's Dancing Nekkid With The Angels. Whether you have that earlier volume or not, this book is a must for Howard Cruse fans.
