7" DVD HeadRest,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Headrest 7" LCD Car Monitors with Region Free DVD player USB SD Inc. Wireless Headhones and 32 Bit Games (Black, Pair) (Electronics)
I purchased this through Amazon, but the sub-supplier handled complaints and return of the product. I am glad that I had Amazon backing up this purchase.
After reading several other reviews on this product, I was prepared for some of the issues. The biggest issue is the Chinese to English translation in the operations manual (not the installation). You need to sit down with a cup of coffee and read these directions first with the product in front of you. There is a Chinese website that is more useful than the instruction manual, or the supplier. If you have a 12 VDC power supply, it is worth it to sit down and figure out all the controls and make sure everything functions before you install these. The adapter rods are of course too small in diameter for today's American Made vehicles. So I twice wrapped them top to bottom with black electrical tape. That seemed to make them snug enough to fit. Hooking up the wiring was relatively easy. My problem came after I had installed them and after playing for 5 minutes, one of the LCD screens went totally blank. The supplier company required me to package everything back up and Fedex picked them up the next day. One week later, my returned package arrived at their business in New York. After a few phone calls, they then shipped a new set which arrived in three days. I tested the new headsets for an hour before installing them. I didn't want to have that problem again. The game CD have nothing on them. they are blank. So I guess you have to go to their website, download the games compresed to your computer, open the games, then transfer them to the CD. Make sure your headsets work. If you have 2 kids in the car and they are watching different DVDs, the sound is maddening. Remember the speakers are right behind your head times 2. So far I am pleased with the equipment. I had three previous vehicles that came from the factory with entertainment systems and we liked them all. But with my latest car purchase, I didn't want to spend $1200 more for factory installed DVD systems, so I thought this was a good investment. If in the future these DVD players break, I can just re-install original headrest. At least for now the grandkids are occupied on long trips. I rated this a '3' because the operating instructions are difficult to understand, and that I had to wait two more weeks for a good set to arrive. The supplier did handle the problem without question..they just wanted to confirm there was something wrong with them.

This is an awesome product for the price. I recently saw similar product for less at Sam's club, so you may want to check that out. Otherwise, this was $120 less than Walmart and has additional feature of watching two different discs at the same time (majority of products on the market have one DVD player and one 'dummy' monitor - that would be a disaster for my kids as they are about 6 yrs apart in age and don't want to watch the same movies). Picture is great, product is easy to operate and install. The only problem we had with it is that IR headsets are of really poor quality, so we are using regular, wired ones. The other thing is that we don't like is that the headrests are not adjustable.

Installation was a bit tricky in a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee but these players are excellent! I removed the factory headrests and installed these and the kids are happy to have their own DVD player.
HOWEVER, in order to install these, I had to open each up and re-wire the power lines - to include soldering. Each headrest support post has a set of wires coming out of them and one had an input connector that I knew wouldn't be used. I removed them entirely. As for the power connector, I couldn't get the actual connector to go down the seat's post hole so I needed to cut the power lines, worm wires through the seat itself and re-solder after installation. I know this sounds like a lot of work but it really wasn't IF you are good with electronics. I would highly recommend this product to anyone wanting individual DVD players for their vehicle.

I bought these for my daughters birthday as a gift she had always wanted and my son who is 9 years younger has his own as well the quality is pretty good but the picture is great and the sound is awesome , if you are looking for a good buy this will save you a ton of cash and make long rides a dream as the kids are quietly watching different movies , its almost a no-brainer of a purchase , disney world here we come!!!

This is my second purchase of these products, bought both Gray and Tan color. I Received these from eliteautosoundsales within 5 days from order. I'd say I'm an average car stereo installer, so I thought I'd tackle the install myself in a 2008 Ford Expedition. It took about 2 hours to install, but some of that was dismantling my center console to get to the cigarette lighter wiring in the back seat. The instructions are obviously translated from Chinese and are terrible.
Basically, you need a Hot (RED) and a ground (BLACK)and the rear cigarette lighter does the trick. To run the wires from the headrest, I just threaded the wiring through the post holes and reached up from the bottom of the seat. There is an access hole into the fabric of the expedition, so it was easy. Another review said the parts weren't SONY. They are if you order from eliteautosound, but not the other seller. All in all, Nice Product and saved alot.

This headrest DVD system has a ton of features, DVD, USB, SD, FM Radio and 32 bit Native Games. Comes with Remote, Game controllers, and headset. I Purchased these for my 06 CRV and they fit perfectly. Unlike the other poster these headrest are adjustable in the CRV. The only draw back is that the instructions have nothing to aid you in the install other that what the wires are and voltage. I t-tapped the power from under the dash from the 12v auxiliary socket. So far they are working great.

Don't buy from this company! Less than 3 weeks DVD player quit working. I followed thier return policy to the "T", however, I forgot to get a tracking number... My bad, I should have realized that this company (that sent me junk) would then deny I sent their junk back to them. Long story short, I paid like an honest person should, I now am $hundreds in the hole becuase this company won't stand by their products (you think I am kidding? Check their return policy! If you feel lucky, buy from them... If your smart, look to a better company.

They work well but one screen has 2 stuck pixels and one dead one. I live in Canada so in order to return these I would have to make two more trips to the USA so I am stuck with these.

Installation:
I did it myself in about 2.5 hours, and that is with hiding every single wire and running the green radio transmitter wires right next to the radio. The hardest thing was running the wires through the headrest holes to the bottom of the seat, however if you buy a fishing tape this will shorten the time 10 fold. You could pay someone to install it but even the most novice person can run these (just allow for more time). Sound: You have 3 options; Wireless headphones.... Good FM Transmitter.... Great Built in Speakers.... Good You choose which is best for you but i like the fm transmitter the best... Picture: AMAZING not only for the price but for the application I give this product 2 thumbs way up! The games are actually confusing (probably due to the fact that they are chinese), but the point of buying this was for the DVD player not the games. Not that i own any ;) , but this player will even play burned copy DVDs. I don't want to keep rambling but read all the positive reviews on this product because they are all true! The negative ones were probable just a fluke, if you install it in a timely manner and it is one of those flukes, just return the product for an exchange because it is a great product!

Kids have been using these for about 2 weeks now. They love them. Sometimes they sit in the car in the garage watching movies (even though we have several TVs/DVD players throughout the house). I'm sure the novelty will where off soon, but these things have worked well and provided just the solution we were looking for. The DVD entertainment option on our new Explorer was like $2000, which seems like a racket to me. This unit matches the factory system feature for feature, the one exception being integration with the front controls. But our kids are old enough to manage this by themselves now (6 & 9).
The games are kind of week compared to our Wii, but they are exploring the different options and stumble across an interesting game occassionally. On the long road trips I'm sure they will return to these when bored. I've downloaded other games from the web site to an SD card and that worked well, though it's a manual process. There are some sketchy instructions, but I was able to figure it out (IT pro for 18 years). DVD player works well and the controls, features and picture are comparable to other factory installed systems we've had. We are completely satisfied with the DVD support. Others have criticized the remote controls, but they just take a little getting used to. My kids have them mastered in 2 weeks. Installation is pretty straight forward. With the pole sleeves on these slipped right into the holes in the seat. It's a little loose though, and won't stay in a raised position, slides down to the seat. Difficulty kind of depends on how hard the access is to the back of your seats and whether you want to hide/hard-wire or us cigarette lighter adpters. First I installed with lighter adapters (split, not included, bought at Radio Shack). I should mention the cig lighter plug that came with our units was not compatible with the units. They included the wrong connector version, so Radio Shack trip. I didn't want to got through the trouble of running the power and ground wires before making sure the units were fully functional. The instruction are not very helpful at all. Basically you just need to hookup power and ground (to accessory terminal on car or cig lighter) and they connect the two units inputs/outputs together (so kids can watch one DVD on both screens). So far everything has worked as expected and we saved about $1700. One other trick I might mention, as a tip. You can listen to the audio through the units built-in speakers (not bad), the wireless headphones (good IMO) or on your car's audio system using the FM modulator in the units (haven't tried). In our previous car the headphones didn't last long and so the kids always listened to movies over the car stereo system. So while with the kids, we parents never get to listen to anything we want. We have Disney tunes etched permanently into our minds. With this new system I turned off all audio output options in the settings so only the headphones work. I've let the kids believe this is the only option. So Mommy and Daddy get to listen to the radio again!! Another things that's crossed my mind that I haven't seen anything about is the safety of these things. The factory headrests aren't there for aesthetics, they serve a purpose. The poles on these don't seem as strong as the original ones. Plus, the factory headrests are angled forward, while these are straight. Because of this I have to lean my head way back to even make contact with these (these adjust/rotate, I'm talking about with them rotated all the way forward). In an accident I wonder if these can provide the same level of protection as the original ones. I doubt it. |
