Great buy, Great Value, Great Seller, November 23, 2009
This review is from: New Tan Pair Headrest 9" LCD Car Monitors with Region Free DVD player 2 Wireless Dual Channel Headphones Sony Laser Reader USB SD and 32 Bit & 8 Bit Game disks and 6 game controllers USB SD MP3 RCA Video input & RCA Video OutPut! (Health and Beauty)
I purchased these headrests DVD players after looking around several websites. I was wary because there were no reviews, but I decided to take the plunge. (The $349 was still $1,000 less than a dealer installed option) I went with the 9" with the zipper to conceal the players while they weren't in use.
The item shipped the next day from the vendor and was here within a week. The first impression out of the box was that they were heavy and seemed solid. The instructions, as mentioned in other posts, were obviously not translated very well but fun to read. (If you have ever figured out how to get the time to stop blinking 12:00 on your VCR then you will be fine operating these DVD players.)
Install was pretty straight forward. While there were no instructions to do this, there are several videos on YouTube. Simply put: remove the stock headrests, remove the seat back, feed the wires through the holes, and insert the new headrest, then replace the seat back. I had to use the 12mm adapter poles to meet my car's needs. These were a little loose fitting, but a piece of electrical tape on the 10mm pole before sliding the adapters on took care of that problem. I made sure that I taped all of the connections and twist tie the wires to the seat frame. The connection were tight, but after driving a long time, things have a way of coming loose.
Once installed and powered up, I must say I was impressed. I was scared that with such inexpensive units, the picture would be very grainy or the DVD's wouldn't play. I inserted a pretty scratched up DVD and it played fine. The FM transmitter works really well. Volume output was nice and loud. The speakers in the headrest are loud enough for each child to hear without over powering each other. The game controllers are on the cheap side, but we didn't buy it to play games. I would definitely recommend the zipper option to conceal the DVD player. This also doubles as a way to keep out the dust and dirt.
All in all, I am very happy about the purchase. Good picture, good sound, easy install, two separate DVD players for my kids, and the price was right. My next step will be to take apart the center console and hard wire the power to the power outlet. Also, I will probably purchase the IR headphones so they have a more personalized listening option.
Pros: Good picture
Good Sound
Solid Construction
Easy Install
Great Price
Zipper Cover
2 Separate DVD
Seller shipped super fast
Cons: Plastic could be better grade for the locking clip, but this is minor.
Instructions are fun to read, but not really helpful.
No Install Instructions, but go to YouTube.
Neutral: To power the units, you will need to either hard wire or purchase a plug adapter. (I had an old extension adapter that I cut the end off of and twisted and taped. As I said, I plan on hard wiring.
For less than $400, what do you have to loose?
