Good to the nitty girtty,

Surfing through Metal Blade's website, I read about the unkown 40 Grit. They are from the metal capital of the San Francisco Bay Area, and have hooked up with some impressive bands as an opening act, such as S.O.D., Anthrax, and Testament. They have a unqiue sound which is both melodic and melanchy. It not speed metal, but a slow grind like found on a Pantera album but with superior vocals. Favorite tracks for myself were "Ground Zero," "Sneaky Glass Face," "Fade Into You," and "Three Spaces." This would please any hardcore metal fan, but it does lean towards the new sound or school of metal. But a heck of a lot better than what the MTV establishment is putting out there. Also nice to see Metal Blade giving new bands a chance to get their sound out there. All in all, a nice first effort by 40 Grit.

I heard of 40 Grit through DirecTV's "Metal" channel, and I thoght they ruled. I went over to mp3.com and listened to some stuff off of the new album(I'm going to write a review for it after I'm finished here)as well as this one. This album is an incredible album, and I think this band should be getting way more recognition. Since no one has reviewed this here yet, and not many people have heard 40 Grit, I'll describe their sound. I'd say that on this album they kind of sound like a cross between "The More Things Change..."-era Machine Head and KoRn's first album. It's great stuff. Some highlights of the album are "Three Spaces", which has a great riff, then adds an even heavier one with a great groove towards the end, "Doing Time", which is just a great song, and "Tension", which sounds like a more hypnotic Machine Head. But those aren't the only good songs, as this whole album is incredible. If you're into really heavy music, do yourself a favor and go buy this NOW!!

This is a great cd. I picked it off ebay for $1 brand new. I figured what the heck, for a buck I'll give it a listen. Boy was I glad! Even though this band borders on new school metal/light hardcore. It's great! All the instruments and songs flow really well. This cd didnt leave my car for a good 2 months. If you haven't heard of 40 grit. Buy this album! You won't be disappointed.
