Excellent jam-oriented studio recording!,

Three songs stand out on this album. They are: Timmy Tucker, Brent Black, and Time Ed. This album really showcases moe.'s talent on bass heavy groove rock. I like this album better than any of their Sony studio releases because they sound more comfortable and loose. moe. is best experienced live, but if you aren't able to get to one of their shows or your hands on their out of print album Loaf, this is their next best offering. They are an extremely talented and capable band. We should expect more excellent material from them.

If you love the "neo-hippie" type music, then moe. is for you. I have been listening to "No Doy" for a number of years and I loved it. But this album "Headseed" tops it. It's great. The effects are awesome and a must have for all you stoners out there.

I want some moe.,

Moe's first CD, and it's pretty impressive. Definitely not followers of Phish/Dead. Full of energy. There is still one song that I just can't get into: "St. Augustine." I do however think No Doy beats out HeadSeed. Definitely worth the money.

After listening to Headseed, and realizing that it was not only moe.'s first CD, but self-produced, one would have only marvelous things to report. After listening to Headseed, and judging it on its own merits, without considering a handicap, it still remains a remarkable album.Tin Cans and Car Tires, moe.'s latest release, proved to a spectacular album, providing listeners with 60 minutes of the band's exceptional energy and talent. The one thing it missed was the jammed out live feel, which is understandable. If you want that, however, just trade for one of hundreds of tapes in circulation . . . or buy headseed. With the release of headseed in 1994, moe. showed why it was emerging as the leader of the pack for jammed-based bands. Each song has its own distinctive edge, from the dueling guitars in Akimbo, to the country ho-down in Time Again, to the spacy feel of Yodelittle. Timmy Tucker and Brent Black, both concert favorites, show moe.'s hard rock edge, highlighted by the exceptional bass talent of Rob "please bring canned food to the show--i'm hungry" Derhak. I must warn you, however, that when you listen to tracks such as St. Augustine and Mexico, you will not be able to stop singing them. one additional note: This CD contains Jim Loughlin, moe.'s second of five drummers. He is by far the most talented drummer i have ever seen and helps take this album to an even higher level.

Good stuff here, going from back to front. Time Ed is the quintessential moe. song, perhaps. At least, it's the favorite of many a moe.ron. Awesome, spacy guitar to end the tune, lyrics that are incredibly hard to understand, and so forth. Also captured here are Timmy Tucker and Recreational Chemistry, as well as Yodelittle. These tracks are soon to appear on moe.'s newest album, "L" due out april 2000. Buy it!

My cousin is a big fan of this band and let me listen to em... he's a big fan of Phish & The Dead, who I both don't really like that much, but I REALLY like THESE guys! They have a nice mellow jam-ish sound, similar to that of The Allman Brothers. I love the whole cd but my favorite songs are "Mexico" & "St Augustine"... wow,,, they just might be my new favorite mellow band..Check this band out if u like The Allman Brothers or similar stuff, or if you're just looking for some nice mellow music that's not too sappy, or,, if you're just sick of hearing that dumb "This is the anthem, throw all yo hands up!" song and want to hear something different...

Coming of age...,

Growing up and coming of age in Albany, N.Y. when moe. was starting up and playing local music spots such as valentine's and bogie's left a lasting impression on me as a jam band snob. seeing chuck, al, and vinnie tear it up night after night a few blocks from my house was something I wouldn't trade for the world. This recording captures roots era moe. with hints toward where we saw them progress to. It's a must have for 'no doy' lovers and later converts. Buy the stinkin' album! It's worth it. I saw it happen!

Energy Pill,

This is Moe's best album. Absolutely tight. Signature bass driven funky, get down, energy. These guys are talented musicians with a unique style that gravitates toward an alternative funky, improvisational, jam band. If you enjoyed, "No Doy", this is better music. Not your average everyday funk.

Alright, if you are reading this all of you need to get out there and check these guys out on the road. While this is a great album, seeing moe. live is ten times better. Rick needs some moe. in his life. Yee-ah.

Although Moe would make other good albums and continue to be a great live act, they were never better than on their debut album, Headseed. Every song is great and every jam is interesting. On their other albums, there are either moments or songs that don't hold your attention. Not so on Headseed. The album starts with the hyperactive "Akimbo" before completely changing gears into the country rock of "Mexico". The excellent "Timmy Tucker" and the poppy "St. Augustine" are highlighted by the super funky bass playing of Rob Derhak. Both "Yodelittle" and "Time Ed" definitely have a Dead vibe with their guitar lines while "Threw It All Away" swings into ska! When you do hear a jam band do that? Other great tracks include the country jamming of "Time Again", the exciting "Brent Black", and "Recreational Chemistry", a tune that starts so laid back and becomes a completely different monster at the end. All told, Headseed, is their best studio album and certainly their most consistent.
