This cd is really good. Do Or Die's first joint "Picture this" was a dope cd with the soft chi-town, Midwest style...I think "Picture this" is a classic but Headz Or Tailz is a really good second cd by the two brothers and their best friend...their rap style is fast and Do Or Die are lyrical monsters spitting out rhymez like machines...they are verbaly good and I hope that they will record a 4:th album...I listen to them often and I never get sick by songs like:Pimpology, Still Po Pimpin, Can I, Dead Or Alive, Ultimate shutdown...Headz Or Tailz is great...only a few songs are bad and if you like MidWest Rap I really think you should by one of Do Or Die's 2 first albums...This one got more songs on it so maybe you get more for the money if you buy this one...Peace Out...

Very nice sophomore effort,

Do or Die's 1998 sophomore effort "Headz or Tailz" is the album that vaulted the trio from a unique underground group to, in my opinion, perhaps Chicago's premier rap act. While it is fairly similar in substance to their debut Picture This, this just shows improvement across the board, both lyrically and musically. The rappers Nard, Belo Zero, and AK-47 are much more interesting this time around, peppering their dark hood tales with personality and substance, while still maintaining a flaunty style. I like how they also make some soft, slow cuts on "Headz or Tailz," they are one of a few groups that can really pull off a convincing hip hop slow jam. Often times R&B singers such as Johnny P and 2Pac's favorite crooner Danny Ray collaborate on such tracks. There's a nice distribution of the dark, hard, quick-rhymed songs and the deeper slow songs. The production is again handled by the Legendary Traxter and others, lacing the tracks with some woozy g-funk and music fitting of Do or Die's unique sound. I feel like the trio also attempted to stop comparisons with fellow midwest rappers Bone Thugs-N-Harmony on this album, further establishing their own unique identity. Don't let this awful cover fool you--"Headz or Tailz" is a great album!
After a very nice intro, the album begins with the really good song "Just Ballin." This song has a dark, woozy sound to it and a good hook, and all three MCs kick nice verses. "Pimpology" is well produced as well, another solid cut. "Lil Sum Sum" is one of the most memorable songs, dark and menacing sounding. "Nobody's Home" is among my favorite songs on this album, one of the softer sounding ones. I like it because while it does speak to the ladies, Do or Die maintains a very pimped-out persona through it. The slow beat is excellent and Danny Ray and Johnny P both deliver a great hook. "Still Po Pimpin'," the sequel to the classic single off their debut, is decent but fails to catch the perfection and polish of "Po Pimp" despite the reunion of Johnny P and Twista on the track. I do not like "All in the Club," a generic and fluffy club song. My favorite song is defintely "Can I," a deep and inspiring slow jam featuring crooners Beyond Content. This is followed by the okay "Choppin Up That Paper" and average "Gangsta S..t." "Bustin' Back" is a diss track towards Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, with some tough production. "Ultimate Shutdown" showcases a rough, triple-tongue delivery from the rappers. "Who Am I" is a decent Scarface collaboration, in my opinion it doesn't fulfill the potential of such a high profile collabo. The upbeat and catchy "Caine House" is a highlight. "Under Surveillance" and "Dead or Alive" are both solid, especially the latter, rounding out the album with the Bushwick Bill-aided outro. While it's not quite the classic album I feel Do or Die is capable of creating, "Headz or Tailz" is a fulfilling and enjoyable album, showcasing a great rap group in their prime. I highly recommend that fans of Rap-A-Lot and the midwest rap scene check it out, I feel that this album and Do or Die as a whole have been overlooked for a long time.

Solid,

This is a solid sophomore realse, that followed "Picture This," this cd has one of my all time favorite Do or Die songs "Lil Sum Sum," I love that song. Along with songs like "Still Po Pimpin" Featuring Twista. "Just Ballin" and "Pimpology" are bangerz too, "Bustin Back" is actually a diss to Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, on the extent of that beef I really don't know. This is a good Do or Die cd for Do or Die fans, also good for any rap fan.

Do or Die, The Best,

I cant believe when i mention to my peers about "Do or Die", and they reply with "Who?". These guys put it down every album with the most famous songs in my opinion: "Fantasy" "Not 4 U" "LiL Ghetto boy" "Choppin Up that paper" "SeX Appeal" "One more way to die" Do U is overate , but good "Nobody Home" "Can you make it hot" "PlaYa like you and me" "Pimpology" "U already Know (only E-40 i can take)" "V.IP " and "Higher". Do or Die should of been the best , ror best known rappers. They need to brodcast their videos more often.

I love these guys cause they're the real thing, and so is the subject matter. The day they're all over the radio will be a sad one, cause right now is when they've got the freedom to do what they want. They never compromise their beat or lyrics, and whatever direction they take their music, it works great. Some of these tracks are made for those nights when you're working on that person in your passenger seat. Don't be shocked if Track 7 has you moving, though. The rest of them are made for cranking your system. So glad I found this one. Don't loan this to anyone cause you won't get it back from them. And then you'll be kicking yourself cause you're craving every song on this one.

Da Shizznit,
By Lee Oxendine (Indianapolis, IN, USA) - See all my reviews

This album iz so tight yall don't even know. I didn't think it could match Picture this at first but after i accually listen to the album and stopped hatin on it like most of us do, i saw that it really wasn't that bad, in fact it was one of the tightest albums i've ever heard. The intro is phat as it usually iz on Do or Die and goes in to one of the tightest songs on the album, Just Ballin', this song iz the shit, its them talkin bout how they haven't changed and that they still just ballin. This song has some of the phattest lyrics. Pimpology is just a pimp song phat to ride wit a female to. Lil Sum Sum is the best, THE BEST song to ride to high, it's got phat lyrics if you really listen to it and the beat at the end when its just the instruments is unexplainable. You just have to feel it i can't say anything about it. Nobody's home is a tight song to just chill to they also got nice lyrics in that song. Still Po Pimpin wit Twista is the song that set this album off. Nuff said. All In Tha Club is a song you play to brfore you bout to go to tha club, Danny boy is tight on this song. The next song, Can I iz the perfect song to just kick back to and have a 40. The next song Choppin up that paper iz one of my favorite, it talks about tha past and how they still chillin' ridin in tha C-a-d-i-double l with an a-c always. That's some lyrics that they say in they songs a lot some people get those mixed up. Then comes tailz, this is the thug part of the album and it comes out with one of the best beats, it's got that chi-town sound to it like it's original. The song afer this is a dis to Bone, even though I like Bone, the song iz still tha shizznit it's got a phat beat and chorus to it. Next song Ultimate showdown is a pretty tight song but not their best. The next one Who AM I with Scarface is tight, It's got a phat beat and iz tight to ride to. The next song the Caine House has an up beat to it and iz kinda like a gansta song but not the beat to go with tha lyrics but it's nice. The Next song Unda Servalence has an aight beat but they lyrics ain't the best and the corus gets really competative. Wanted Dead or Alive has a nice beat to it and is just a tight song to listen to. The last song Tailz iz phat even though it's short. It has one of the phattest beat and dope ass lyrics plus NARD comes off phat on this one, it's kinda like the old Do or Die.

Even better than their debut,
By Philip Y. (Israel) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Headz Or Tailz (Audio CD)
I feel that with "Headz Or Tailz", Do or Die made a huge improvement. "Picture This" (their debut) was a classic, no doubt, since it introduced the world to Do Or Die, and because of the big hits on the album "Po Pimp", "Playa like me and you" and "Money Flow". However, Headz or Tailz, which was released a couple of years later is a step forward for this group. They come out with much improved flows and even the production is better, and more up to date. I feel that with this album, Do Or Die got their own identity. People tend to compare them to Bone Thugs and Harmony, but this is a mistake, since Do Or Die have got a whole other style. Sometimes they rap fast, but on many songs (especially on the "pimp" songs) they slow it down, and come out with a laid-back, smooth and mellow delivery, which sounds nothing like Bone (by the way, song number 11 "Bustin Back" is a diss song to Bone, a reply to all those disses Bone threw agains Do Or Die on their 3rd album "The Art Of War").
I'd like to disagree with the ones who say that only the first half of the album (tracks 1-9, the pimp songs) are good, and that the second hald (tracks 10 - 17, the gangsta side) is dissapointing. That is NOT true. Of course that Do Or Die are at their best when they rapping over slower, mellower RnB types of beats, but saying they can't do gangsta rap is just nonsense. The second half is banging as well, the group tear those beats appart and they show they've got range, and that they are capable of being hard-core also - and that's very important for a rapper. You can't be too one-dimensional! People sometimes fail to realise that. Do Or Die are from the streets and that DO know their gangsta sh**, and it's evident on the streets tales told all throughout the album. As usual with Rap A Lot albums, production is amazing, as The Legendary Traxter and Mr. Lee each produce 8 songs, and Mike Dean produces one. The beats fit Do Or Die's flow perfectly, and this is a classic album for sure. Probably this is the group's best album, continuing the huge success Rap A Lot had in 1998 (one of the label's best years ever).

STILL PO PIMPIN,
By Algiers Brown (Newburgh, NY United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Headz Or Tailz (Audio CD)
I bought this album back when it came out in 1998. it is one of better albums from rappers who speed rap. i likehow the seperated the album bcause the first 9 songs are smooth pimped out songs and the last eight are gangst tracks. if u know do or die u know the first 9 songs are the best ones because the are not that good when it comes to being gangst rappers. i think the only reason why they went that way was because of the record label their on. Rap a lot is all about being gangsta but do or die is not a real gangsta rap group their better at tellin you how to get into a girls head and how to use her for what u can. like i said if you like speed rap then ull love this album.
