About the Author

Begabati Lennihan, R.N., CCH (Certified Classical Homeopath) graduated from Harvard in 1974 at the top of her class and has spent 35 years working in different aspects of holistic health care. She is a Health Expert on Dr. Mehmet Oz’s ShareCare.com and Director of the GreenHealing Initiative. She has written A Healer in Every Home (in two parts, for people and for animals) and has produced a TV show by the same name, posted on GreenHealingTV on YouTube. For 16 years Begabati owned a health food store, where she first began working with homeopathic remedies in 1981. She began studying homeopathy professionally in 1995 with Dr. Luc De Schepper, and with him co-founded the Renaissance Institute of Classical Homeopathy, later serving as Director of Teleosis School of Homeopathy. She currently practices at the Lydian Center for Innovative Medicine in Cambridge, Mass. Begabati has edited a number of top reference books in homeopathy for well-known American and European authors. She was the co-author with Dr. June Riedlinger of the Homeopathy chapter in the American Pharmacists Association’s Handbook of Non-Prescription Drugs. Begabati’s interest in natural healing was inspired by her parents: her father is a vascular surgeon who helped develop the Doppler ultrasound and her mother is a biochemist who researched stains for Dr. Papanicolau while he was developing the Pap smear. Nature lovers and early conservationists, they gave Begabati her childhood wildflower garden with all the plants labeled with their Latin names. Many years later, in her health food store, Begabati was delighted to find that her childhood friends – the native plants of the New England wildflowers – are powerful herbal medicines. She has practiced heart-center meditation for more than 35 years under the guidance of spiritual teacher Sri Chinmoy, who gave her the spiritual name Begabati. ( Pronounced “Beh-GAH-buh-tee”, it means a fast-flowing river and symbolically refers to the individual soul plunging headlong to merge into the ocean of infinite consciousness.) In keeping with Sri Chinmoy's philosophy of community service, she teaches free classes in meditation at Harvard University's Center for Wellness; in keeping with his mind-body approach to fitness, she has completed 50 marathons, ultramarathons and triathlons. Based on her practice in heart-centered meditation, she is able to establish a deeply supportive and nurturing relationship with her clients.

More About the Author

Burke Lennihan entered Harvard planning to become a doctor like her father, but she developed a passionate commitment for natural healing as an undergraduate, and her life took a different turn. At a time when there was no professional training in natural medicine, she graduated from Harvard at the top of her class and opened a health food store.

She ran her health food store until she was 40, interacting with thousands of customers and developing a treasure trove of knowledge about natural remedies -- from her studies and, more importantly, from talking to customers about what worked for them and how they could tell.

A registered nurse, she currently practices as a holistic health care professional at the Lydian Center for Innovative Medicine in Cambridge, Mass. She lectures on homeopathy at Harvard Center for Wellness and at Lesley University. A health expert on Dr. Mehmet Oz's Sharecare.com, she produces a local TV show, A Healer In Every Home, available on the GreenHealingTV channel on YouTube. She also co-authored a chapter on natural healthcare products in the American Pharmacists Association's Handbook of Non-Prescription Drugs.

My daughter called me while house-sitting and caring for a pair of lovebirds. The female passed away and the male was grief-stricken. He wouldn't eat, was very withdrawn, and was clearly depressed. He was going downhill fast. She was afraid he was going to die. From having read this book, I suggested giving him Bach Rescue Remedy, which is used for both pets and humans to treat emotional trauma. She put a few drops in his water and when he drank it, he began to improve immediately. Within a day or two, he was almost back to his perky self! He continued to improve and now, 2 or 3 months later, he is not only perky, he is the social butterfly of the household, even befriending visitors. He is better than ever! I became inspired to write this review today after hearing the bird chirping away in the background while I was talking on the phone with my friend. (He was trying to get in on the conversation!)

I don't even have a pet anymore, myself. I bought this book to give to a "human" physician who takes in rescue dogs. The physician loves the first book, the "humans" edition. Before I could get this "animals" edition to her, I started reading it and ended up keeping it for myself! So much in the book applies to humans, too, that I think it is a great companion to the first book. Also, so much in the "human" edition applies to pets. It's a winning combo to own them both.

(I did get another copy of the book for the physician and she is thrilled with it!)

This is a lovely little book ... brilliant for anyone interested in learning more about easy, natural healing methods for their pets.

In "A Healer in Every Home" Lennihan provides her human readers with an easy to use guide to natural solutions for a variety of common complaints. In this lovely Dog and Cat edition she brings in the expertise of a trailblazing holistic vet a holistic rescue shelter owner to guide the home healer through extending the same level of care for their 4-legged friends. Dealing with a variety of common pet problems ranging from flea and tick bites to aggressive behavior, Lennihan provides the reader with easy to implement healing solutions.

Proper nutrition and the prevention of chronic disease and more are all dealt with in Lennihan's delightfully informal, user-friendly writing style. The information contained in this book has already saved me hundreds of dollars in unnecessary visits to the vet for all kinds of everyday complaints in my two cats and my dog.

Love this book, it not only provides you with a better knowledge of the products in your home but healthy alternative ways to care for your pet with clear & accurate directions. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is not a fan of high priced vets and man- made/chemical medications with awful side effects who is looking for a healthier, more affordable alternative.

I have to admit that I initially scoffed at the idea of holistic veterinary care. It's a little "new-agey" for me. Well, I'm glad I got over myself because this author provides a lot of great information in her book. A great book for anybody who loves their pet!

I love this book! And use it as a great resource in helping me be a better pet owner. Easy to follow with advice that is explained in terms easy to understand. I helped my aging collie with arthritis, my young Aussie with itching and both of them with anxiety. I love this book so much I just donated it to the local animal shelter!
