As a fan of well-crafted dystopian worlds and hot romance, I really enjoyed reading Healer's Garden. Pierce is a killer world-builder. The heroine is complex and likable, with enough toughness to be interesting and enough sensitivity to root for. I liked her immediately. The hero is equally complex, and his personality is revealed in perfectly paced layers.
I've read a lot of sci-fi, and I've read a lot of romance, and I found the plot - the female society which reduces men to breeders - refreshing in its unpredictability. With romances, you know it will work out fine, and you can usually see how, but with this book, I was hooked to the last page and I wasn't disappointed!

This is the first example of this genre I've ever read. What impressed me the most with this story was the skill displayed by the author in constructing both the story line as well as her characters. It was a tremendously enjoyable read and I look forward to enjoying other examples of Nina Pierce's writings.
