5.0 out of 5 stars A book that feels like a seminar
If you have ever attended one of John's seminars, this will be a welcome addition to remind you of all the stories and various sayings that John uses. After I read it the first time, I felt like I had just been to a seminar, which is a great feeling.

Reading the book helped to remind me of the important principles that are needed to do the myofascial work well...

1.0 out of 5 stars not what I thought it would be
I purchased this book after attending my first MFR seminar last year. All I can say is WOW!! But hold on. It's not an impressed "wow". It's more like "I can't believe I paid 50.00 for a book that is one long advertisement of how wonderful John Barnes is. Every page is dripping with conceit. This author hasn't written anything worth reading in this book. No anatomy,...

5.0 out of 5 stars A book that feels like a seminar, September 6, 2000
This review is from: Healing Ancient Wounds: The Renegade's Wisdom (Hardcover)
If you have ever attended one of John's seminars, this will be a welcome addition to remind you of all the stories and various sayings that John uses. After I read it the first time, I felt like I had just been to a seminar, which is a great feeling.

Reading the book helped to remind me of the important principles that are needed to do the myofascial work well. The book is also a great way for clients to better understand the work.

The book is very readable for therapist as well as patient. It also provides a history of the work and its development on both a historical basis and how intuition played a large part in the formation of the various techniques used. It also serves as a frequently asked questions list by addressing common questions both therapists and patients have about the method.

This book is not a technical manual, but a philisophical and a historical look at myofascial release and how it blends emotional, psychological, nutritional, and structural components into a very unique healing method.

I enjoyed it very much and will be reading it through again as a reminder when needed.

No anatomy, no science, no technique. In fact the author wrote very little of this book himself. The entire book is a compilation of letters from past clients and MFR trained therapists, mostly female, who write about how John was the missing link in their healing journey. If I wanted to hear about total stranger's medical problems, I would just stand in the longest line at the grocery store. I noticed that Amazon marketplace has some used copies for over 80.00 for sale. Anyone who pays 80.00 for this book is being totally ripped off. In fact anyone paying the list price is too. Do yourself a favor and save your money, unless of course you need to read in his own words and the words of his patients, how wonderful John Barnes is.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Master, September 24, 2000

I have taken several courses with John Barnes and will be taking many more. He is a gifted lecturer, teacher, guide and a master of a healing touch he calls Myofascial Release. This technique reaches into the cellular level of body, mind and spirit in a way that promotes, as the title of his beautifully written and illustrated book says "Healing Ancient Wounds". The book is written for patients and professionals and is filled with wonderful stories and anecdotes that will make you want to run to your nearest Myofascial Therapist or course offered by John F. Barnes.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Rosetta Stone for those coping with dis-ease., October 1, 2000

For anyone curious about myofascial release, its benefits and applications for health and healing, this book is a marvelous start for what can be an extraordinary journey. John Barnes' insights and wisdom are a "well" from which every health professional should "drink." For those whose lives have become a routine of coping with dis-ease, it offers more than just hope.

I have been a physical therapist for thirty-two years. My only regret is that I didn't know about myofascial release until ten years ago. It has transformed my approach to patient treatment. It has also transformed my life.

Thank you, John Barnes!

5.0 out of 5 stars More than technique, September 29, 2000
This review is from: Healing Ancient Wounds: The Renegade's Wisdom (Hardcover)
This book beautifully pulls together the true essence of what Myofascial Release is: more than just techniques. It illustrates how healing needs to come from a much deeper level, from one's soul... both for patient and clinician. I HIGHLY recommend this book for anyone considering this work, or even curious about this work.

Full of intriguing and interesting stories from the author and many of the therapists from around the would, which John Barnes has trained himself.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who has ever found themself in pain (physically, emotionally, mentally or spiritually.)

The illistrations are remarkable too.

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST for Healing..., May 31, 2001

This is the most profound book that I have ever read. It will "over and beyond" meet the needs of medical professionals, as well as the needs of their patients, regarding fascia constrictions and the affects those constrictions have on the body. Also, it goes into great depth regarding the correlation of how all wounds encountered in life affect our bodies and not just our minds...an extension of fixing the complete self in gains of becoming a whole self. You will not be able to lay this book down if you truly have a fascia problem, as story after story illustrate the healing powers of Myofascial Release. I contacted the John Barnes facilities for information on healing for myself before I even finished reading the book. I look forward to meeting this outstanding Physical Therapist and author and hopefully becoming a part of his next book...but most of all becoming pain free.

5.0 out of 5 stars A paradigm shift, December 14, 2008
This review is from: Healing Ancient Wounds: The Renegade's Wisdom (Hardcover)
This book really helps one to transition from what has been accepted as "truth" in the medical communtity to an approach that works and is based more on what is supported by quantum physics. It is also a very personal and spiritual book.
I highly reccommend this book

5.0 out of 5 stars healing ancient wounds, July 7, 2008

This was a very informative book about Myofascial release. You do need an open mind to digest some of what John says but if you are open then you can also get results as a patient and a therapist.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enlightening read, February 22, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Healing Ancient Wounds: The Renegade's Wisdom (Hardcover)
My introduction to John Barnes came through my physical therapist who was using some of the techniques, developed by Barnes, to treat my injuries. As she worked on me, she talked of attending one of Barnes' retreats, his treatment methods, the retreat agenda, etc. It all sounded so interesting and I asked if she knew whether he had written any books. She recommended that I take the clinic copy of "Healing Ancient Wounds" to read. I agreed, though fearing it might be too technical for me to really get into. Was I wrong!! From the opening paragraph I was hooked! I hated to put the book down, and devoured it in a weekend. It was easy to read and understand, and was packed with information about the bodies' fascia system and how it relates to the entire body's workings. I wanted, so badly, to highlight portions as I read, but knew I had to return the book to the clinic. As I neared the end of the text, I decided I had to have a copy for myself, and ordered my own book through Amazon. I consider this to be a valuable reference/resource book as I deal with the pain and dis-ease in my body. I hope to some day be able to attend one of Barnes' seminars and experience the healing therapy of MFR.
