This review is from: Healing Back and Joint Injuries: A Proven Approach to Ending Chronic Pain and Avoiding Unnecessary Surgery (Hardcover)
"Healing Back and Joint Injuries" by Joseph Valdez, MD
Review by Kathie Albertson, L. Ac.

Dr. Valdez discusses the effectiveness of prolo therapy- a natural healing method used via injection of natural substances to support and rebuild ligaments and tissue.

Prolo therapy has been around since the 1940's. Wikipedia states: "Proliferative Injection Therapy involves injecting an otherwise non-pharmacological and non-active irritant solution into the body, generally in the region of tendons or ligaments for the purpose of strengthening weakened connective tissue and alleviating musculoskeletal pain. It is also known as "proliferation therapy" or "regenerative injection therapy." As of 2005, the Mayo Clinic began supporting prolotherapy. They first learned of prolotherapy through C. Everett Koop's interest in the treatment. Mayo Clinic doctors list the areas that are most likely to benefit from prolotherapy treatment: ankles, knees, elbows, and the sacroiliac joint located in the lower back. They report that "unlike corticosteroid injections -- which may provide temporary relief -- prolotherapy involves improving the injected tissue by stimulating tissue growth."

This book encourages use of natural healing methods. It describes what pain and injury does to the body and how we can permanently heal this damage.

Why isn't it used by modern medicine? It's simple--- it is cheap and effective! Pharmaceutical companies, orthopedic, or physical therapy offices don't profit as much from using this therapy.

As a practitioner of acupuncture and holistic medicine, I personally used it and it worked unbelieveably well on pain I had from 3 degenerated discs. It worked better for me than disc decompression. Does it work for everybody...of course not... I know of nothing that works for everyone, but I feel it should be incorporated along with, or before sterioid injections, which are hard on your liver and kidneys.
This book will better help you understand your options. I was thrilled to see it on the book shelves.

Prolo has no knows side effects. I encourage you to learn more about it from this book and to seek out those doctors that use it. Avoid uncessaray surgery! And get back the quality of life you deserve.

I received a complimetnary copy for review.
