5.0 out of 5 stars trim the fat
Nowhere have I seen a more honest ,no-nonsense approach to addictions and human discomfort than in this book. I have read the introduction over and over for it is the most conscise explanation of the 'human' condition as has been written. It has a certain flow of truth that rings of channeled material --- it is just that exact. In this world the truth is addictions are...

I'm so fed up with all the contemporary new-age pseudo-psychology by people with no academic credentials in their fields. This is one more of this sort of literature and, what's worse, it is badly laid out. The first boring half of the book is about what has supposedly taken place during a seminar. The rest is personal stories of people who have conquered their...

I have read the introduction over and over for it is the most conscise explanation of the 'human' condition as has been written. It has a certain flow of truth that rings of channeled material --- it is just that exact. In this world the truth is addictions are transfered and not healed -- in Carol Howe's world addictions are healed because the cause of pain is FINALLY looked at. This a book that will be hated by traditional psychology --- that is how GOOD this book is!

As a mindfulness based psychotherapist, author and teacher, I found the advice in this book to be very helpful. I find that when such good strategies as presented here are combined with mindfulness meditation, which provides a way of of establishing a healthy, non-reactive inner therapeutic space in which difficult emotions, depression, anxiety and trauma can heal. If you would like to couple this sound advice with the healing power of mindfulness, then I also recommend 'The Path of Mindfulness Meditation' available through Amazon.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Pivotal Approach to Healing, April 11, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Healing the Hurt Behind Addictions and Compulsive Behaviors (Paperback)
I loved this book.It addresses compulsive and addictive issues without the standard focus on "fixing" something on the physical level. Ms. Howe encourages the reader to let go of frustrating and exhaustive behaviors by offering the important ingredient of choosing to see differently.Through the many participants that were interviewed for the book, the reader witnesses their navigation to a new vision and how it changed their energy pathway by enabling them to gently release their issues.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Personal Experience, March 27, 2000
This review is from: Healing the Hurt Behind Addictions and Compulsive Behaviors (Paperback)
Reading this book is to personally attend a workshop with the author and to be lead into some deep inner honesty by way of the open sharing of the participants. Real people willingly describe their respective addictions, confronting the pain from which they sought diversion, and their journeys into freedom. I was deeply touched, and challenged to realize there is nothing from which to hide.

5.0 out of 5 stars Healing the Hurt Behind Addictionk and Compulsive Behaviors, March 24, 2000
This review is from: Healing the Hurt Behind Addictions and Compulsive Behaviors (Paperback)
This book is radically simple, radically clear way to recover from any addiction. I know, because I tried it and it works. Carol Howe gives us profound insights into the idea of "one problem, one solution" with a clarity of writing that brings remarkable impact. This book is for anyone who suffers, which appears to be all of us.

5.0 out of 5 stars Howe succeeds masterfully in helping us to learn how., March 28, 2000

Carol Howe comes to this topic the hard way, which thus brings us a credible, believeable, and proven approach. Her be Here Now approach encourages us to leave blame, shame, and guilt behind... a welcome relief. You won't want to put this book down. When healers like Hugh Prather and Jerry Jampolsky speak so powerfully about an author, and a new book, we MUST pay attention. Carol has a knack, which likely comes from her over twenty years of "systems" experience in big business, and her parallel path of teaching and practicing the content of a major Miracles book. When you add in her successful experience as a mother, and her many painful lessons... the combination is one of deep wisdom, laced with an innate vein of humor. I highly recommend this book, and this author. Carol does indeed bring an experienced clarity of childhood trauma, thus giving us a brilliant book that simplifies this complex subject... and leaves us with a certain Hope, and Joy. My children, and my former wife no doubt wish that I had read this delightful book sooner. So do I.

I'm so fed up with all the contemporary new-age pseudo-psychology by people with no academic credentials in their fields. This is one more of this sort of literature and, what's worse, it is badly laid out. The first boring half of the book is about what has supposedly taken place during a seminar. The rest is personal stories of people who have conquered their addictions, all sounding rather fake. I would recommend instead "The Addictive Personality" by Craig Nakken.
