Wonderful publication of these priceless tantric Mahayana sutra,
By Jinajik "Adhipendramuni" (New Zealand) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Healing Buddha: Revised Edition (Paperback)
Raoul Birnbaum has assumed the role of a son of the Buddha by translating and studying these Mahayana sutras concerning the Bhaishajya or Medicine Buddhas and bodhisattvas. In the Tibetan canon these sutras are included in the tantra section because they subtley integrate ritual and mantra for opening to door to siddhi (occult power). Unfortunately since Birnbaum translates from the Chinese, the mantras are in the phonetic Chinese rendering from the Sanskrit known as Siddham, which means the effectiveness of the mantras is largely snuffed out. However, the study materials and translations of the sutras themselves are priceless additions to human knowledge in the fields of religion and medicine, making this book indispensible in any exhaustive library of Mahayana Buddhism.
