5.0 out of 5 stars The Healing Consciousness: A Doctor's Journey to Healing, August 14, 2006
By
This review is from: The Healing Consciousness: A Doctor's Journey to Healing (Paperback)
This beautifully honest book provides the reader with a sense of caring, warmth, self-worth, support, and empowerment. One very special and talented doctor, Dr. Beth Dupree, takes the reader on her introspective professional, and very personal, journey. This book is important to those who must address the challenges of cancer on a daily basis, those who support and/or live with someone with cancer, medical community members who need to grow in their profession and who need to understand what their every word or action means to a patient and their family member, and finally, for those who "care."

5.0 out of 5 stars An inspiring collection of Dr. DuPree's illustrative examples and commentaries drawn from her own life, July 10, 2006
This review is from: The Healing Consciousness: A Doctor's Journey to Healing (Paperback)
As a board certified surgeon who specializes in diseases of the breast, Dr. Beth DuPree has found through her many years of professional practice and personal experience that blending holistic therapies with state-of-the-art, leading-edge, medical technologies leads to better outcomes than any sole reliance on one to the exclusion of the other. This open-minded attitude and impeccable professionalism shows throughout the pages of The Healing Consciousness: A Doctor's Journey To Healing, an inspired and inspiring collection of Dr. DuPree's illustrative examples and commentaries drawn from her own life as well as the lives of her patients and friends. A dedicated physician who embraces both the wisdom of Eastern and Western approaches to medicine, as well as "mind/body" reciprocal influences, Dr. DuPree shares "life lessons learned" from both her professional observations and personal experiences. Informed and informative, The Healing Consciousness is comprised of twenty-five "reader friendly" chapters (each one dedicated to the underlying message and universal theme of hope, change, and an aspiration to acquire a better balance in our lives regardless of our circumstances or condition) and features a summary of six basic principles, plus a listed bibliography. Dr. DuPree emphasizes a necessary connection between ourselves and what is required to precipitate, participate, and propagate a spiritual enlightenment that will not only enhance our own physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being, but the well-being of those with whom we associate whether they be family, friends, associates, or strangers. An articulate presentation in a particularly engaging narrative style that is especially accessible to non-specialist general readers, The Healing Consciousness is enthusiastically recommended reading for those with an interest in alternative medicine, the healing arts, holistic health, personal spiritual development, emotional self-improvement, and adaptive strategies to dealing with stress, illness, and the inevitable hardships that all of us will encounter from time to time. No personal improvement reading list or community library self-help reference collections should fail to include Dr. Beth DuPree's The Healing Consciousness.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating Book! A must read!, August 30, 2006
This review is from: The Healing Consciousness: A Doctor's Journey to Healing (Paperback)
This is a fascinating and beautiful view from a doctor's perspective of the synchronistic benefit of combining the Western and Eastern worlds of medicine and healing. Wow! It makes such perfect sense. Dr. DuPree has not only embraced this marriage of East and West, but had the courage to write a book about it, perhaps to the chagrin of others in her field. But wait, lest you think this is a "preachy" book, it's not. There's no soap box for miles around. This is a gentle read that is honest and without pretense written by a female doctor who comes off equally gentle, honest and without pretense.

This book would be extremely uplifting for people who are ill, as well as for those who have friends or family who are ill, offering a healthy and hopeful spin on dis-ease. Surprisingly, I also found it to be a spiritually uplifting read in a broader sense and not just limited to issues of physical health. It is a blessing, a joy and an inspiration, as is Dr. DuPree. She's a wife and mother; is setting up a state-of-the-art breast care center; remodeling a farm house; does speaking engagements all over the country and...wrote a great book. Dr. DuPree makes me want to do more ... and be more. She is an inspiration.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is an incredible book!, June 27, 2006
This review is from: The Healing Consciousness: A Doctor's Journey to Healing (Paperback)
This is the best book I've read in a long, long time. It is a must-read for anyone who has ever been diagnosed with a chronic illness, and it is so inspiring. I couldn't put it down! Beth gives down-to-earth examples of real patients, and chronicles her journey to becoming a better physician and healer in a manner which is easy for anyone to understand. This is a great book for anyone who has questioned current medical practice, and it makes you want Beth to be YOUR doctor. I can't wait for her next book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Thought provoking and full of wisdom and wit., November 14, 2006
By
This review is from: The Healing Consciousness: A Doctor's Journey to Healing (Paperback)
This books reads like a chat with a very wise friend. A surgeon who integrates conventional medicine with alternative medicine, Dr. Dupree uses interesting and intriguing examples to guide the reader through her own journey of awakening. I liken finding a doctor with her philosophies to finding a needle in a haystack.

This book is insightful, inspiring - a real breath of fresh air - an overall pleasant read for anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating, moving true story!, September 14, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Healing Consciousness: A Doctor's Journey to Healing (Paperback)
Loved the book, THE HEALING CONSCIOUSNESS, by
Dr. Beth DuPree . . . she is a breast cancer surgeon
in Bucks County in Bucks County, Pennsylvania,
who has come to the conclusion that Western medicine
(surgery, chemotherapy and radiation) is just part of
what is needed to cure patients . . . so she has now
incorporated Eastern healing modalities (Reiki,
yoga, massage, meditation, guided imagery, diet, and
wellness) to complete the mind, body, spirit connection.

I found Dr. DePree's story fascinating . . . it was both
forthright and moving, and I felt as if I was with a friend
who was sharing her life with me . . . yet that's not surprising,
since she believes that "everyone has a story, and I believe it
is important to listen to the details" . . . now when was the
last time you heard a doctor say something like that!

She then continues to observe that "each person is the star of his
or her own full-length feature movie. I've realized that listening to
my patients' stories is as important as the surgery I perform on
them. Validation of their life and their journey is an incredibly
important part of the healing process."

I also liked getting to know her patients and friends, though I
was saddened when some of them did not make it through
their illnesses . . . one other thing I enjoyed was hearing about
how Dr. DuPree went about setting up her practice . . . in
particular, I found valuable her technique of always seeking
the opinion of nurses first because they "will give you the real
dirt on someone if there is any dirt to find."

There were several other memorable passages in THE HEALING
CONCIOUSNESS; among them:

* The perennial garden needs love and attention, as does the
entire property. I choose not to focus on the list of things
that are broken and need repair; instead I choose to focus
on what is right and healing and perfect about this place.
As I do with my patients, I see the wellness in the land and
the buildings. We will tend to the "disease" of the property
just as I do with my patients, healing one person at a time,
always focusing on what is healthy about each individual.

* When I have the great fortune to give a benign diagnosis (that
the results are not cancer), I remind my patients that the
Universe has just given them a whisper, and they should
evaluate things in their lives they would have changed had I
told them they had cancer. Every woman or man who experiences
a breast biopsy has a time when they think, "What will I do
differently if I have cancer?"

* Treating cancer in my patients has taught me to be truly present
in the moment. Making a connection with another human being
is the ultimate gift medicine gives to both the patient and the
physician. We must stop the constant chatter in our minds long
enough to become present and connect with another human
being. This allows us to access the healing consciousness. If we
utilize this higher consciousness while working with patients to
attain holistic healing, we are using our healing consciousness--a
powerful and positive energy--in its purest form. I have
awakened to my healing consciousness and would like others
to experience this awakening as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Daughter's Cure, September 29, 2007
This review is from: The Healing Consciousness: A Doctor's Journey to Healing (Paperback)
This book is written by a surgeon friend of my daughter. My daughter had brain cancer 10 years ago and that was the reason for the book. She has had chemotherapy and radiation, infection, and 3 surgeries. She is a Radiologist. Beth takes her experience and that of several other friends to reformat the way she practices medicine. Of course, my daughter has reformatted her life as well. Medicine seems to becoming the treatment of the whole person, not just the disease.

I loved reading about Beth's journey and how she, women of medicine, blended and embraced spirit's influence into her life. There is no coincidence or as she refers to them synchronicities. As a medium, I loved relating how she was "Light Driven" by spirit for a greater purpose resulting in a wonderful new continuum of healing. So many of us have family members touched by breast cancer, her tenacity gives hope that her story will influence other doctors to incorporate eastern and western medicine for a total healing. I hope there will be a sequel.
