I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor, spiritual seeker and avid outdoors person and I have been looking for a way to bring these aspects together. Phillip Sutton Chard's book "The Healing Earth" has shown me the way. Chard not only applies psychological insight to the practice of psychotherapy but actually uses nature as the "therapist." His case studies illustrate how nature has the power to heal and change our lives, validates our own experiences and empowers us to use the natural world in the practice of psychotherapy. Chard's book redefines "sanity" as if the whole world mattered.

I am a existential psychotherapist and have been seeking the way for myself and others to lead a being vs. having lifestyle.Thank you Mr. Chard for showing me the way.This book is so well written and has such a powerful message it should be the prerequisite reader for anyone interested in the newly formed ecotherapy movement.It is also written so that both the professional and lay person can benefit.His preface alone was great!

In nearly thirty years as a clinical psychologist and therapist, I learned quickly not to recommend books. I found the self-help volumes to be frustrating and confusing as they offered generalities, platitudes and panaceas, while the more directive books tended to be pedantic, presumptuous and preposterous.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK. HIGHLY AND WITHOUT RESERVATION OR EQUIVOCATION.

The author successfully sings the song of human life. The effort allows readers to more fully see themselves, to more fully appreciate both their uniqueness and their commoness and to begin an exploration of healing and growth through the natural connections and processes available to us all.

Buy this book, borrow this book, steal this book. Somehow acquire the experience for yourself. Begin to accept. Begin to change. Begin to live. Do it now.

This book deserves much more attention. I intend to recommend it to my career coaching clients. The author emphasizes that we don't always figure out what we need by "mouth aerobics." Getting out and experiencing nature will help us find where we are.

Reading this book brings forward some of my most wondrous moments with Mother Earth. One cannot be touched by the Grand Canyon or a 360 degree turquoise and magenta sunset without being changed forever. I have always known that my "spiritual home" exists outside in the fresh air amongst the perfection of flower faces. Philip Chard shares these feelings and more, and does it so eloquently.

As psychotherapist Philip Chard beautifully and compellingly writes in his deeply touching book, The Healing Earth, "all of us are looking for home." After reading this book, I am filled with a sense of awe at the many lessons Mother Earth can teach us about our lives and ourselves. I am sure your soul--your true home--will too be touched in a profound way as you read his words, experience his poignant and effective exercises, and renew your connection with the earth. I can remember sitting in church, not hearing one word of the mass because I was watching the oak trees through the window. I realized that my church was not inside, but outside. Mr. Chard's book beautifully articulates what I've long felt and provides a deeper understanding of the spirituality of the Earth. The book is poetic and accessible, touching and entertaining. Anyone wishing to expand their consciousness will benefit from this lovely piece of literature.

What a treasure! The author approaches psychotherapy in a totally natural way, using methods that intuitively feel right. After years of talk therapy and barely measurable progress, I feel like I've found answers -- some that feel so right, I can't believe someone didn't suggest this a long time ago. Very easy to read -- in fact, hard to put down. Language that at times is so beautiful that it rivals classic prose. Real world examples with which everyone can relate. Lots of exercises specify steps to put these practical ideas to work. A must read for everyone who understands the need to reconnect with our mother, the earth.

I have always been a nature lover. This book reminds me why. I now know I have always had a mother-daughter connection with my Earth Mother unlike the one I sought, but never found, with my birth mother.
