An excellent journey guide to the inner self., July 17, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Healing Earth Tarot Kit (Book and Tarot Cards) (Paperback)
I have used many different tarot decks for many years and think the McKies have created a beautiful and enduring medium for the inner journey. The extra suits, in particular add two extra dimensions not found in other decks. I find this invaluable in my healing practice and personal work on the Self. The images, colors and variety of conditions on the human experience unfold with wisdom and insight.

Slightly complicated, but worth it., February 16, 1999

This review is from: Healing Earth Tarot Kit (Book and Tarot Cards) (Paperback)
This is the Deck that I started with. With it's wonderfull immagery and detailed discriptions it is a beautiful deck that draws on many different cultures. It is slightly complicated because of the two extra suits (pipes, and Feathers) but these help to give a more rounded picture in a reading. Jyoti and David Mckie have done a wonderful job with this deck.

Positive, healing, clear and deep, October 25, 2009
This review is from: Healing Earth Tarot Kit (Book and Tarot Cards) (Paperback)
I've been using Tarot cards for 25 years and have been a professional spiritual counselor using the tarot as a tool since 1987. Healing Earth Tarot is one of my "go-to" decks and, along with the Voyager deck, is the one I use most frequently for my personal readings. The images allow an openness for interpretation based on the spiritual energy of the moment. Unlike many decks based on the Rider-Waite or Crowley systems, the swords in this deck (which are renamed Crystals, as they are in the Voyager) are not overwhelming negative and permit a positive view of mental energy. The extra suits, Pipes (for healing) and Feathers (for spirit), allow greater depth in readings. I especially like splitting off the spiritual element from Wands and giving it its own suit in Feathers. This allows Wands to be used for personality and individual expression, and it gives a separate suit for the traditional fifth element of spirit which used to be part of European cosmology and still is part of the ayurvedic and accupuncture understandings of the human energy system.
The artwork in the deck is gorgeous, drawing from many different earth traditions and with a strong emphasis on Native American and Aboriginal Australian. The back-sides of the cards feature a design typical of Australian aboriginal artwork.
The authors of the deck are coming out with a redesigned second edition; it was supposed to be published in May, 2009 and has yet to arrive. The new deck will feature a new, simpler, blue border and two extra cards in the major arcana, bringing the card total up to the magic number of 108. An illustration of one of the new majors, called "World Community," is on the authors' website.
While the extra suits makes the deck a little more complicated, it is actually easy to use once you get the hang of what the two additional suits stand for. This deck can be a great asset for the professional or for more dedicated users. I highly recommend getting this first edition, since we don't know when (or if) the second edition will actually materalize!
