Proof of God's Existence, His Mercy, and of Mary's Key role, February 17, 2008
This review is from: The Healing Fire of Christ: Reflections on Modern Miracles--Knock, Lourdes, Fatima (Paperback)
I originally chose this book as a freebie earned on another book buying site. It came in its plastic wrapper and remained that way for months until I thought I'd take it on vacation and give it a try....Once openned I couldn't put it down! Since that time several years ago I've bought over 10 copies and given it out to others! I can't believe that at the time of this writing, there are no other reviews listed! It must be THE BEST kept secret -- but it needs to be shared!
This book is about Mary in her service to Christ her son. She has come to us many times to help us find God and to bring Christ's healing to those in spiritual and physical need. The book is made up of multiple real life stories of miraculous healing. Stories that are connected with Marian apparations in Lourdes, Knock, and Fatima. The people of the stories, because of the extent of their illnesses and the rapidity of healing leave you with no conclusion but that of God's miraculous intervention -- and hence material proof of his existence and love for us.
One story stands out especially for me as a physician, is the one of Dr. Alexis Carrel who as a fallen Catholic, medical scientist, and physician (and future Nobel Prize winner) was agnostic but decided to accompany a healing pilgrimage to Lourdes in France in 1902 when another physician dropped out. He had planned "to observe the incredible power of suggestion..." but instead was to be witness to the miraculous! He was to witness first hand the miraculous healing of Marie Bailly, a near death tuberculosis patient with huge masses of tuberculosis in her abdomen. She was a woman of great faith and humbleness. This event so tranformed him as a scientist and as a human being that he eventually returned to God. I've read his own book (English translation) "Journey to Lourdes," and find Paul Glynn's account here very consistent!
This book is FULL of such healing stories of Fatima, Lourdes, and Knock as well as other pertinent historical information and deals with the critics charges of histeria. So many stories of healing span from the 1800's right up until late 20th century -- healing continue today but this book only covers up to the late 20th century. This book gives MODERN evidence of the miraculous showing that Christ is God, and that God is truly merciful and loving!
Buy it! Read it! Share it with others -- especially those in need of HOPE!
