I would describe this book as "Louise Hay 401." Carol takes us in great detail into how each thought we think has its place in our body. The author can see the human aura (a gift that understandably puzzled her at first) and sees exactly which negative emotions are stored where in the body. Her detailed case histories, body maps and an index of illnesses serve as startling proof that what we tell ourselves is the most important factor in how we feel. What I love is the specificity of Carol's descriptions, how she is able to see different feelings in the 4 different parts of the heart, for example, and in each organ and gland. The book is the result of 25 years of individual healings, from which Carol has been able to draw general conclusions about patterns of thought and their resulting forms of disease.

Here are some overarching ideas:

You have the power to heal yourself - The body is designed for self-healing and the soul is designed for self-healing. The only variable in whether healing happens lies in the quality of your thoughts.

Only you can heal yourself. No one else can - Others can only offer support, knowledge, suggestions, and perspectives. Only you can make the changes necessary to heal.

Love heals - The energy of love carries an incredible healing power. When you offer love to any part of the body that's hurting or not functioning properly, it engages the restorative powers of the soul and the mind.

Forgiveness creates the space for love in the heart - When our heart is full of fear, anger, sadness or despair, there's no room for caring, compassion, self-acceptance, and self-love, the necessary elements for healing to happen.

Author Carol Ritberger has finally taken the mystery out of why we get ill and more importantly how we can get healthy again. In her wonderful book "Healing Happens with Your Help" she takes the reader on a learning journey about body, mind and spirit. Her words and ideas will open doors for the many people out there searching to understand why they are ill or why the health of certain body systems are compromised.

I knew at many levels already what Ritberger was going to lay out in her book; however, she weaves what you intuitively believe into reason-based logic. She takes you a step at a time like a good teacher and guides your thinking. She makes great case for the mind, body and spiritual connections that affect our health.

The book is well written and can be read in one sitting (As I did) but I believe it is best savored just a few pages at a time--much like one might absorb knowledge while sitting at some Zen master's feet. The author will educate and inspire you - but more importantly, you will be positively changed by what you have been exposed to. The words and the thoughts are powerful, yet Ritberger does not let her own ego get in the way of presenting her beliefs about health.

One of the biggest messages in the book is the most simple and that is about forgiveness and how love heals. If the reader gets no other message then this - then the author has gifted the world with a wonderful spiritual treasure.

This book is not some new-age trendy flavor-of-the-month manifesto but a deeply profound key for health at all levels--the body, mind and spirit! This book has been nominated for one of The American Author Association's national awards for 2008. This book receives the AAA's highest book rating of FIVE STARS! It also gets my personal endorsement and recommendation. This book should be in everyone's personal library!

I have read several books of this 'kind' and this book is very well done and a good complement to Lousie L Hay's YOU CAN HEAL YOUR LIFE (1999 edition -updated from her earlier copy). When one realizes that "outside" medicines don't seem to be taking care of the dis-ease this is one of the better books to read for some very helpful insight on how to heal" and get connected with one's whole self and do some real deep healing vs. masking symptons. I find this book is clear and has a good depth to the information given. If you are interested in doing some serious healing this a book for you and especially if you are an individual that can grasp the concept of 'inner healing' and if you want to take responsibility for yourself. "The purpose of illness is to alert us that change is required if we're to experience good health" from the intro....though I have other good books on this same topic; I consider this one well worth adding to my library. Read this book! change your health; change your life.
