5.0 out of 5 stars Combines self-help techniques, respect for life, spirituality and can-do action into a single uplifting catalogue, December 10, 2005
This review is from: Healing the Heart of the World: Harnessing the Power of Intention to Change Your Life and Your Planet (Hardcover)
Compiled, organized and edited by Dawson Church, Healing The Heart Of The World: Harnessing The Power Of Intention To Change Your Life And Your Planet is an anthology of essays by learned authors describing simple ideas and techniques anyone can follow to bring about a marked improvement in the well-being of oneself and the planet. From learning to forgive, to finding value and purpose in oneself rather than looking to the fickle whim of outside society and popular culture, to engaging with and even finding God in nature, to learning from the scientific revolution and minimizing or eliminating the use of damaging or polluting products, Healing The Heart Of The World combines self-help techniques, respect for life, spirituality and can-do action into a single uplifting catalogue of recommendations for a better future. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars A distillation of usable wisdom, December 5, 2005
This review is from: Healing the Heart of the World: Harnessing the Power of Intention to Change Your Life and Your Planet (Hardcover)

Heaving a sigh upon hearing about "Healing the Heart of the World", and groaning over another
book I knew was, for me, a must read, I am now equally as thrilled. The contributors to the book give the reader forty books in one! I can understand why Dawson Church chose each of them. Every contribution builds on the last. The sage advice given to would-be writers: keep it simple, clean, and to the point is pristine within these pages. In my profession every chapter could serve as the catalyst for a class or a Sunday morning lesson.
Jean Shinoda Bolin's words still ring in my heart. We do indeed heal the heart of the world one cell at a time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Healing Ourselves - Healing The World, December 4, 2005

Carolyn Myss, Naomi Judd, and (and somewhat to my surprise) Prince Charles - these are just a few of the some 40 plus contributors of thought provoking and insightful essays contained in this book. I read three or four essays as a starter. And I think I will use this book by reading an essay each day as a source of inspiration and renewal. There is much wisdom contained in each essay to ponder. And if a person could implement only a small portion of the wisdom contained in this book, it would (will) accelerate a person's own personal growth and, in turn, the healing of the world.

4.0 out of 5 stars called to be a beacon of change, April 22, 2007
This review is from: Healing the Heart of the World: Harnessing the Power of Intention to Change Your Life and Your Planet (Hardcover)
Reviewed by Leslie Granier for Reader Views (3/07)

"Healing the Heart of the World" is a compilation of thoughts, ideas, and personal stories contributed by a diverse group of people, including psychologists, doctors and even a country music singer. It will appeal to intellectual and spiritual individuals who want to live a happy and peaceful life while also trying to make the world a better place. Females especially will relate well to the subject matter since they are a more feeling and emotional group than men. These contributors not only tell us what we should do to accomplish these tasks. They also demonstrate how to achieve these goals through the use of specific examples to support their ideas.

The topics included in this book range from love, healing, getting in touch with nature and embracing one's spirituality. I especially enjoyed the chapters on love and forgiveness. It was demonstrated that the power to love and the power to forgive lie within every one of us and that the choices we make in our everyday lives affect our happiness and the happiness of those around us. Another concept that struck me was "messiness, chaos and frustration are positive signs, reminding us that we are growing." This statement reminds me that change is important but it never comes easily. Change must occur in steps and these gradual modifications mark positive movements toward a goal. It is through these steps that we gain strength and experience in a journey towards a better life.

Overall, this was a well-written and informative book that really can help change humanity. For the most part, it was free from bias but there were a few times I felt the individual contributors were trying to promote his or her workshops and seminars. Perhaps it would have been a bit more acceptable if websites were listed at the end of the book for those who are interested in seeking more information about attending seminars from the authors.

"Healing the Heart of the World" carries a very important message - overall healing in the individual will result in an increase in the health of the planet and the world. We are being called to be a beacon of change and a source of renewed hope. This can be accomplished if everyone puts in the effort at the individual level and leads others through their example.

Received book free of charge.
