Like her The Complete Medicinal Herbal (LJ 5/15/93), Ody's latest is an eye-pleasing addition to herbal collections. Colorfully illustrated, it traces the use of medicinal herbs from ancient times to the present. The self-help section gives detailed instructions on how to make basic remedies at home from homegrown or purchased herbs. This is followed by a listing of 120 popular herbs and their applications for a variety of conditions. Logos and warning signs alert the reader if a condition calls for professional intervention. No references or bibliography though.

I came across this book when I started to explore herbal medicine and found it very useful. The layout is excellent and the pictures are very good, helping a novice to identify several herbs. It gives detailed description of many common herbs and useful instructions in preparing herbal remedies.

I would definitely recommend this book to everyone who starts a journey into herbal healing.

I have a large library of herb books, and there are a number of them that are much more comprehensive than this. Even Ody has better books. However, the pictures in this book are great. Definitely a good reference, especially for beginners.
