5.0 out of 5 stars A surprisingly excellent scientific work, October 11, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Healing Power of Minerals, Special Nutrients, and Trace Elements (The Healing Power) (Paperback)
This is not just another shopping-list of chemicals but an outstanding dissertation of the basis for trace elements and other micro nutrients in our diet and the reasons for the universal lack thereof. Besides its value as a guide to nutrition, the book provides insights into our biological origins, as a species, and shows how far from our "natural home" we have strayed.

Paul Bergner writes and extraordinary book documenting how American produce has systematically declined in mineral nutrients over the 20th century. From the strip mining of factory farming to the choices of less mineral rich species for public consumption, our food no longer contains what it used to. Since the 1970s, when the last government comprehensive accounting of the nutritional value of foods was published, mineral content has tended to drop by a third. Bergner shows that an apple a day in 1929 was worth close to 30 today in terms of minerals. Colloidal minerals, mineral supplements and chelated minerals are dissected, searched for hidden aluminum and compared to mineral rich herbs like nettles. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars informative and useful, May 23, 2006
This review is from: Healing Power of Minerals, Special Nutrients, and Trace Elements (The Healing Power) (Paperback)
Still working my way through this book. I find it very informative and useful. I've read through "Nourishing Traditions" by Fallon and Enig but found that they relied a little too heavily on Price's work. I like that this book uses more independent sources to put together the information. Definitely worth adding to one's collection if you are a book addict, especially on the subject of nutrition.

This is an outstanding book, well researched and based on years of practical experience from treating people with mineral deficiencies. It should be in print, it is still dead-on and relevant. I wish I'd read this years ago when I started trying to repair my blood sugar metabolism.

Bergener says the essentials for health are good nutrition from natural foods, along with balanced omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, which is exactly right from my own experience and research.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!, June 28, 2008

Paul Bergner is so amazing and his knowledge is just unbelievable. I own 3 of his books and I am so impressed with the amount of information provided. This book is great. I recommend this book to anybody who is health oriented and want to learn how to use minerals, supplements... the right way. Nowadays, too many people use supplements, herbs....however without realizing that too much or not enough can affect your health even if it is natural.
