Quick Stress Relief,
By Gankaku "gankaku" (Fairfax, Va) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Healing Mudras: Yoga for Your Hands (Paperback)
With yoga, I realize the stress-relieving and relaxing effects from regular practice. I was skeptical when I saw this book and thought oh, a few hand movements can't compare to the type of relaxation I get from yoga. However I always like to try new things so of course I bought the book. :-)One evening I felt particularly stressed and decided to try some of the mudras for my immediate needs. Only a few minutes later I was feeling more centered, relaxed and at ease. I've only practiced a few times so far, and each time I've experienced great relief from whatever was bothering me. And if you like a challenge you'll like practicing the exercises - contrary to what I thought, it's challenging at first to hold some of the hand poses for more than a minute or two. I recommend this book to anyone who needs stress relief in a short period of time. There are many other mudras for amazing things like compassion, healing a broken heart, for releasing guilt, longevity, etc. In addition to regular exercise and healthy diet, I look forward to exploring the exercises in this book throughout my life to help whenever there is imbalance, and to adding a few specific ones to my daily routine.

I have been searching for a book like this for a long time. This is the only book I have been able to find about Mudras. The beautiful and easy methods in this book are something anyone can use everyday. I am a sufferer of severe migraines for many years, and these techniques have helped me to lessen my headaches. I have become less stressed, more focused and feeling stronger on all levels. The photos and instructions are clear and easy to follow. I highly recommend Healing Mudras to everyone.

I have found new and wonderful healing techniques through Sabrina Mesko's book Healing Mudras. In my day to day life filled with stress and deadlines, her breathing and hand exercises have helped me to release these tensions and balance my life. Only a few minutes a day and I feel such relief and freedom, as if I stopped and smelled the flowers. I recommend this book to anyone feeling the overwhelming pressures of a busy life - it's visual, accessable and the results are instant. Ah, to learn how to breathe and focus again...truly a gift.

An Amazing Book for a Non Believer,
By Wendy Newhouse (Dallas, Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Healing Mudras: Yoga for Your Hands (Paperback)
My roomate got the book and video for Mudras, Yoga for your hands. I thought it was more new age bunko, but she said don't knock it til you try it. I did, and, I have to confess, it is truly amazing. If the body is electrical currents and these mudras help to channel them, then Ms. Mesko has really discovered something great. I work in a really high stress job, and I've started doing a few minutes of de-stressing mudras and breathing before, and sometimes at work, and they truly help. This practice is easy and non time consuming. The book is easy to understand, and the video the best! I'm convinced. Thank you for this fantastic book!

Accessible, clear, effective, and useful power tools,
By
This review is from: Healing Mudras: Yoga for Your Hands (Paperback)
I came across this book because of my growing interest in chakra balancing and energy-based therapies. A friend had recently taught me some simple mudras, and I'd experienced a significant positive change in 3 weeks' time from using them. I was interested in learning more, especially with a focus on healing.
Most appreciated: accessible, simple and visually straightforward layout. Clear pictures on oversize pages make each mudra visually accessible for the end-user. If your eyes are over 40, and your muscles less than limber, you can easily access this information. I never have to change glasses, lean over to see what's on the page, squint, or otherwise leave my comfort zone to access an exercise. The author and publishers bring the information to the reader, rather than requiring the reader to come to the information. The book is accessible, easy to understand, and the exercises in it effective and powerful. Following a high velocity car wreck caused by a drunk driver, I was injured and have experienced many years of disability and limited mobility. Sitting on a couch cushion on the floor, I'm able to use these mudras without difficulty. Using chakra balancing and healing mudras for as little as five minutes twice a day has had remarkable results. A few months ago I would have called myself a couch potato; today I am more like a lotus. People who see me every other week comment on improvements in my flexibility, skin color, overall energies and peace of mind. Imagine having 5 people in a row look at you and say "Wow!" That's what I've been experiencing. Doing this kind of thing does not require vast amounts of time; if daily practice is impractical or impossible, do it as often as you can-2 or 3 days a week, twice a day. Do it as often as you can remember. It can make a powerful difference. No matter how disabled, hopeless, tired, overweight, limited in range, or out of shape you feel, you can begin to heal. Mudras and chakra work as described in this book are a gentle but very powerful path for healing. I'd recommend this book to anyone who seeks a positive change in their energies.

"The practice of mudras for at least three minutes a day...,

will bring you health, wealth, balance, success and happiness." from HEALING MUDRAS.
This is a delightful book to own and get out regularly to do a brief meditation any time of day and focus on something you want to improve in your life. The photographs show you the hand positions and all are done sitting indian style. Allow me to share the fifty-two mudras: Part 1: Soul Mudra for: Divine Worship, Happiness, Love, Universal Energy and Eternity, Trust, Inner Integrity, Evoking Inner Strength, Wisdom, Gentleness, Developing Meditation, Guidance, Help with a Grave Situation, Powerful Insight, Contentment, Prosperity, and Higher Consciousness. Part 2: Body Mudra for: Anti-aging, Strong Nerves, Protecting Your Health, Preventing Stress, Healthy Breasts and Heart, Feeling Your Energy Body, Preventing Burnout, Healing After a Natural Disaster, Overcoming Addictions, Healing a Broken Heart, Eliminating Fatigue, Dieting, Recharging, Balancing Sexual Energy, and Longevity. Part 3: Mind Mudra for: A Good Morning, Facing Fear, Releasing Guilt, Stronger Character, Concentration, Overcoming Anxiety, Transcending Anger and Preventing Headache, A Sharp Mind, Patience, Inner Security, Calming Your Mind, Keeping Up With Children, Taking Away Hardships, Efficiency, Tranquilizing the Mind, Diminishing Worries, Removing Depression, Self-confidence, Right Speech, Unblocking the Subconscious Mind, and Compassion. Surely you, like myself, can see many things listed you'd like to improve, likely several from each category! Why not give this a try? It is one of the easiest things you can do to begin helping yourself grow. If we can learn to sit still, relax and breathe deeply and slowly, and by practicing these hand positions it can help you start--the inner calm we so long for in this stressed out, anxious world can be ours. o8E Soar!

This is a Wonderful Book!,
This review is from: Healing Mudras: Yoga for Your Hands (Paperback)
I had attended a workshop with Sabrina 6 months ago and had learned a few of the mudras. I felt a connection with them right away. I have eagerly awaited for this book to be published and am so glad to have finally been able to purchase it. Even after a short time of utilizing these mudras, you can feel a difference. I feel so good after a session. They are fabulous stress reducers. Thanks Sabrina for a marvelous book!

Great book,

This review is from: Healing Mudras: Yoga for Your Hands (Paperback)
I really like this book, which I use in conjunction with Sabrina's video on the same subject. It contains exercises that I haven't seen elsewhere. The book contains some details that are missing from the video eg which chakras to concentrate on, which colours to visualize and which mantras to use and other guidelines for practice. On the other hand, the video shows precisely how to execute a good selection of the mudras. Before I got the video, I wasn't quite sure how fast and deep I should do the different breaths. I found the mudras were effective right from the beginning, but their effects only intensify, the more you do them. I really feel recharged after a tiring day at the office after doing a few of these. I find that they clear my mind and prepare me for meditation, if I feel like doing it, or just relaxing. I hope that Sabrina writes another book soon. She is a good example of what she teaches, with her flawless complexion and clear eyes.

Simple hand gestures for coping with stress and more,
This review is from: Healing Mudras: Yoga for Your Hands (Paperback)
In Healing Mudras: Yoga for Your Hands, author Sabrina Mesko describes how the use of simple hand gestures, or mudras, can help you cope with many of life's challenges, from preventing stress to healing a broken heart to calming your mind. The book is divided into sections on Soul, Body, and Mind, with each section offering at least 15 individual mudras. "Soul" includes meditation-focused mudras such as Happiness, Love, and Trust, whereas the "Body" section focuses more on specific ailments (eg, Protecting Your Health, Preventing Burnout, Eliminating Fatigue, etc.). Finally, the "Mind" mudras address mostly emotional well-being, including Releasing Guilt, Overcoming Anxiety, Diminishing Worries, and Removing Depression. Each individual mudra is given a 2-page layout which includes an overview of benefits, meditation points for the mudra (ie, chakras, colors, and mantras), and a large photo captioned with clear, concise directions for performing the mudra.
Mesko recommends practicing mudra for just 3 minutes a day to start, eventually building up to a 31 minunte daily practice. Although I haven't engaged in a regular mudra practice as she suggests, I have found that taking a few minutes to perform these simple hand movements does leave me feeling more calm and centered. If you are looking for a simple, easy method to add a bit of self-care and inner focus to your daily life, this book is an excellent place to start.

Come with an open mind,
This review is from: Healing Mudras: Yoga for Your Hands (Paperback)
I do not wish to deter you from experiencing this resource, for it is at least entertaining (those outfits she wears are a scream!), but I am not as thrilled with this book as a factual resource on the topic. What I did find helpful from Mesko's creation are the mantras and the way she associates each mudra with chakras and colors. I am, however, a very logical person, and while I work in the often less logical world of energy (Life Force, Reiki) and mind (counseling and hypnotherapy), I prefer to have the sense that what I am learning from a text is real, not fantasy - I'll pick up science-fiction when I'm looking for it.
I cannot validate all of her claims and I really felt like she was making this stuff up (but I do no know that for certain as I am a mudra novice myself), especially since I had difficulty matching her mudras with other sources, but I would not hesitate to give this book to a beginner and non-serious practitioner with a great sense of humor and a wonderfully open mind. I do believe there is a place for this book - it's just not in my personal library. |
