5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Guide To Health and Happiness
The Healing Path Of Yoga is exaclty what it promises, healing for mind, body and spirit. I found this book filled with practical tools that anyone can use to transform their lives. Chapters on meditation, imagery, food choices, healthy sleep, yoga postures, breathing techniques, guided relaxation, and more, are all excellent guides for rejuvenation.

1.0 out of 5 stars Pathetic!
Had I read the reviews more critically, I would never have bought this book. From these reviews it is clear that Ms. Devi has popularized yoga, and in so doing, has trivialized yoga. Her earthy-crunchy, anecdotal babbling throughout the book makes this an excruciating read. I have never written a negative review of a book, but this book is an abomination.

Nischala Devi's extensive experience in Integral Yoga techniques and her pioneering work and teaching yoga therapy with both Dr. Dean Ornish's Reversing Heart Disease Program and Michael Lerner's Commonweal Cancer Help program clearly shines through.

A great guide for one and all and an excellent addition to the yoga literature!

5.0 out of 5 stars There are angels everywhere and sometimes they write books!, March 4, 2001
This review is from: The Healing Path of Yoga: Time-Honored Wisdom and Scientifically Proven Methods That Alleviate Stress, Open Your Heart, and Enrich Your Life (Paperback)
Nischala Joy Devi's, "The Healing Path of Yoga" is truly an inspiring and practical book which should be included in the library of anyone interested in self-healing. Devi presents ancient tantric yoga practices which are accesable to the average reader without being threatening. The book introduces eastern teachings in a very user-friendly manner. If you are new to the healing arts or a serious student of yoga, there will be something in it for you.

I do not simply believe that these techniques work, I KNOW that they work. When I was born the doctors and experts told my parents that I was not expected to live due to heart disease. I had my first open-heart surgery at the age of twelve. In 1992 I was introduced to the Dean Ornish Program to Reverse Heart Disease. This program literally changed my life. I have had an opportunity to meet Nischala Devi and practice yoga with her. She is truly an angel to me and what I find so wonderful about her book is that her gentle spirit comes across. Even if you are not interested in yoga, Nischala's personal stories are well worth the purchase price. I have gifted family members with this book and everyone has told me how much they have enjoyed reading it. In fact, my mother who thought that yoga was a religious cult, signed up for yoga classes after reading this book. I can't give this book a higher rating than that!

5.0 out of 5 stars Yoga of the heart, June 18, 2000

This review is from: The Healing Path of Yoga: Time-Honored Wisdom and Scientifically Proven Methods That Alleviate Stress, Open Your Heart, and Enrich Your Life (Paperback)
This book is about yoga for the heart, which is rare in our body sculpting culture, yet paradoxically heart diseases are one of the greatest risk factors for our modern health. A simple, profound gift of yoga is the recognition that the body is the temple for the indwelling spirit. Realizing this simple truth profoundly affects our relationship to the body. Through the author's lifetime committment to the teachings of yoga, we glimpse the relevance of the yogic lifestyle. This book serves as a guide in making healthier choices in everyday life. By walking for awhile with Nischala, we touch a deeper realization of the unity that yoga brings. I recommend this book to any yoga practitioner, teacher, as well as anyone who seeks greater peace of mind and physical well-being.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Warm & Friendly Guide to Yoga - for Anyone, June 6, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Healing Path of Yoga: Time-Honored Wisdom and Scientifically Proven Methods That Alleviate Stress, Open Your Heart, and Enrich Your Life (Paperback)
The author has spent much of her life sharing yoga with people facing physical challenges and life-threatening diseases. The depth of her compassion, knowledge, and understanding shows in this gentle, friendly, and very accessible guide to yoga. The book brings encouragement and inspiration to readers who are new to yoga, as well as those with more experience. Delightful, moving stories are interspersed with very practical and easy-to-follow tips and instructions. "The Healing Path of Yoga" makes it clear that yoga can be adapted to each person's specific needs and limitations, and it shows the reader just how to do that. As a yoga teacher myself, I would heartily recommend it to any of my own students; as a reader, I found it a joy! -Prakash Shakti Capen

Finally, a book on Yoga that is based in the spirit. And for real people. It has amazed me to see that some very simple practices could actually do what modern medicine was not able to do. The stories are imspiring as is the antidotal information. As a person recovering from a life threatening illness it has become my bible. I taught me compassion for myself and for others. I am looking forward to Devi's next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Helpful in healthcare, March 13, 2004
This review is from: The Healing Path of Yoga: Time-Honored Wisdom and Scientifically Proven Methods That Alleviate Stress, Open Your Heart, and Enrich Your Life (Paperback)
I took her certification training and received the book at Ananda in California. I have shared the book with open minded pathophysiology instructors at The University of Utah College of Nursing. It is so helpful to have adapted poses to offer people of "less than perfect" bodies. Yoga has been so helpful to my patients on numerous levels. I also got to hear a testimony from one of the participants of the Dean Ornish Program on which she collaberated. He was inspiring by reaffirming the benefits of yoga came to him even without his appreciation for or acceptance of Eastern philosophies. But peace and healing came to him nonetheless. What an inspiration Nischala, her course and her book have been for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Healing is Right!, November 14, 2007

This review is from: The Healing Path of Yoga: Time-Honored Wisdom and Scientifically Proven Methods That Alleviate Stress, Open Your Heart, and Enrich Your Life (Paperback)
In a world where violence is running amok, Nischala gives voice to a personal path to peace. This book is truly healing. Each chapter covers a different aspect of yoga (the totality of yoga, not just asana), inviting the reader to explore body, mind, breath, meditation, etc. and to integrate a larger vision of yoga (union) into their daily lives.

Nischala speaks from the heart in language that is conversational and inviting. She shares inspiring personal experiences of tapping into the various aspects of yoga as she travels the world with her healing message.

I use this as the textbook for my "Relaxation for People Who Don't Know How to Relax" workshop and the students love it.

It discusses aspects of breath, meditation, and the physical practice of yoga. It also focuses on stress relief and heart health. I real gem.

I have bought several copies of this book to give to relatives.

This was required reading for a course I was taking. Read the whole thing thru and already started to use parts in the classes I teach. Really recommend this book to anyone who teaches or anyone who wants to learn more about themselves and the power of yoga to heal.
